Is 2GB Vram enough for the Asus Mars 2x Gtx 760 (1080p)

James123

Hello all, Im looking into buying a new pc. But Im not sure which gpu i should buy, the best price/performance in my country seems to be the Asus Mars 2x760, it is at the same price point as the 780 (non ti) in my country but has performance in line with the 780ti. The only thing i am not sure about is if those 2GB vram are enoug for the next couple year ( ~ 4 years maybe ). I am gaming on 1080p and i wont upgrade my monitor anytime soon and i dont use things like 16xAA in games. Ive heard many people saying that 2GB isnt enough even for 1080p, but then i look at benchmarks for the Mars and see that it even outperforms the 780ti on resolutions beyond 1080p even though i thought the 3GB vram of the 780ti would help alot. So please tell if 2GB Vram will be enough for the next couple of years with the Asus Mars 2x760. Looking forward to reading your suggestions.

Yeah it runs just as fast as a 760 in some benchmarks whereas in some others it runs as fast as a 780ti. Get a fast single card and be happy about your consistent performance.

Nice thanks! Still not sure if i should buy it i watched and read each review i could find on the internet and the only negative point usually was the 2GB vram and since this doesnt seem to be a problem for me i might buy it. And everyone seems to be surprised by how good it performs in games like Far Cry 3 or Crysis 3 even ~10 Fps better than the 780ti.

You're definitely much, MUCH better off with a 780 Ti or R9 290X. Maybe the MARS Dual 760 will outperform sometimes, but it's always best to avoid SLI when possible. I.e. get the most powerful single GPU card you can.

SLI is just plain inconsistent in performance.

They are both much more expensive where i live. The only option would be 780(non ti) , but its like attleast 20% slower in all benchmarks ive seen.

You will be fine with 2gb at 1080p. My card uses more, but just because it can. My buddy also only has 2GB and his card runs well on the same settings and uses less.

When buying a higher tier card, you will not have to worry about that though because we are talking 3 or 4gb VRAM here.

A 780 or 290 might be slower than a 780ti or 290X but still very fast. Also the price/performance ratio is much better with the 780 and 290 compared to their big brothers.

R9 290 would also be an option for me even a little bit cheaper than the others. How is your r9 290 tri x working? Unfortunately ive heard many bad things about it ( Blackscreen, Fan noise ....) , but also many good things.

Well I have one, and my brother too. We both bought them refurbished for under 300 bucks. Very cheap. At the time a 280X was about 280 bucks.

Mine runs fairly quiet, and I have a very small case (look at my gallery if you want to see what I mean). Still when I play Battlefield, I can't hear much noise from it with my open-design headphones on. In my brothers rig, it is very quiet. his case has great airflow, and that's what this cards really wants to stay quiet. As far as temps go, I never reach 80°C, I mostly game at around 73°C max., only Furmark brings temps up more. For my brother it even stays under 70°C, or just up to 70.

I never had any issues with the card, neither did my brother. When you click around this forum, the 290 TriX is probabaly one of the most, if not the most recommended card when it comes to the 290. The VaporX has a better cooler, but is usually also much more expensive.

I highly recommend the card, since it has great value concerning price/performance and also brings a great cooler to the table.

Here are my 2 GB 660's running BF4 in 4k on ultra.  I wouldn't worry much about 2 GB being enough on 1080p.

"Ultra"

*AA off*

Wut? I know you don't need AA@4K but for 1080 you gonna need AA and that will eat most of the VRAM.
