Minecraft Tekkit Launcher

Hey, so I recently downloaded the Tekkit Launcher, and I played about 20 minutes of Hekkit.

 

Then, suddenly, it showed me an "Out of Memory" error screen, and told me to allocate more ram.

 

So, after some research, I go to the little gear at the top-right of the launcher, and try to allocate more ram, although my options are only up until 1GB. By the way, I have 8gb of 1866mhz kingston hyperx fury ram. 

do you have 64 bit windows/java? I believe your running a 32 bit version of java for it to only allow 1 gig like that.

You need 64 bit java to use more than 1GB of ram.
