I recently watched Linus' video about the Schiit Audio Amp + Dac. I currently have a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 80 Ohm headphones and I was wondering if I should get the Magni amp or even the Vali amp ( http://schiit.com/products ). I know the sound quality might not change a lot, but I've been wanting to get an amp for a long time now. Since I trust Linus when it comes to tech related things I feel like this would be a really good improvement on my setup.

I would recommend the Mayflower Electronics O2+DAC since you're running 80ohm headphones.

Eh, what does O2+ODAC got to do with headphones' impedance?

Eh, what does O2+ODAC got to do with headphones' impedance?

I've used a DT770 80ohm and the 250ohm with a 02+ODAC and the Schiit Magni and Modi and I found just about no difference with the 80 but for some reason I found the 250 sounded better with the 02 than the Schiit. I didn't know the Schiit combo was cheaper so that's why I recommended the 02+ODAC.

OP: While the Magni requires a power jack to power-on, the O2 can run on batteries for a while. That and the option to have the ODAC incorporated within its chasis as a combo might influence your decision to prefer it for transportable use.

I have to admit, I'm a little confused, though.

I would recommend the Mayflower Electronics O2+DAC since you're running 80ohm headphones.

Here you say he better get the O2+ODAC because he's using an 80ohms headphone

I've used a DT770 80ohm and the 250ohm with a 02+ODAC and the Schiit Magni and Modi and I found just about no difference with the 80 but for some reason I found the 250 sounded better with the 02 than the Schiit. While here you say you found no difference between the O2+ODAC and the Magni/Modi, when used with DT770 80ohms version. Price difference aside, if there are no differences between the 2 in using it with an 80ohms headphone, then it should be on par, the O2/ODAC and the Magni/Modi, so either would be fine for an 80ohms headphone.

O2 got an internal battery circuit, but O2/ODAC doesn't. The space for the internal battery circuit is taken by the ODAC circuit. So O2/ODAC needs an external power supply.

The O2/ODAC (they're working on a newer version, the ODA) is a good device, but it shouldn't be judged in relation with the impedance rating of headphones, though. If you're talking about how loud it would go, then it depends more on the sensitivity of the headphone itself. For example, the HE-6 with just 50ohms is one of the hardest to drive headphone in the market, very much harder than even the DT770 250ohms. It got low impedance, but also very low sensitivity.

What I meant to say is, the sentence

I would recommend the Mayflower Electronics O2+DAC since you're running 80ohm headphones.

Implies that the need of a good/powerful amp correlates with headphones' impedances, while in reality it correlates more with the sensitivity level of the headphones.

Creatip didn't say anything offensive or out of line. If dropping a long post of explanations  doesn't suit you, then it's on you, not him.

And that panda looks to be in some serious pain. Probably has a migraine.
