Hi, I hear that reference style cards are better to use if your using an air cooler on your cpu. Is this true?

That's probably right,

For reference designs,  they use a blower style cooler, which blows hot air out of the case.

With non-reference, it blows the hot air into the case.

So, your statement is probably correct.

It entirely depends on things like your case, your particular cards the particular air cooler, motherboard ect... and I don't know why it'd matter significantly

If you have a case without very good airflow, then non reference cards can increase CPU temps with an air cooler, I have personally tested this in my own machines with multiple configurations and now use a reference card to avoid the problem.

That being said, the difference can vary and is often small, in a lot of cases it may be fine to run an aftermarket GPU in a case with an air cooled CPU, however in mine it is not.

Likes @Askew post...(cause's him to gain even more likes then @LinusTech), still thinks there should be an award for this.

If you've previously won the build off please pm me so we can get something worked out.
