A can of compressed air through the vent hole may get rid of some dust.

Otherwise (if you know what you're doing) open it up and spray out the dust, and re-apply thermal paste.

1. I haven't had a cat, or lived in a house with one while using this laptop

and 2. what bugs? and where are they? is that why it smells burnt from thehole where the air comes out (the name eludes me at this moment)

I think you're looking for "vent".

And I was saying cat hair in a generic term, I'll apologize as my OP was a bit sarcastic. But yes Laptops get full of hair (carpet, natural hair from peoples head etc) and dust. Then there's the occasional bug (I service laptops).

It'd probably be worth opening it up, if it's nice the CPU is easy to get at. There is usually a carpet of dust and crap on the heatsink.

I don't think spraying the dust in to the machine will solve the problem...

do I really need to re-apply themal paste to the cpu and gpu? dosen't that stuff last for more than 2. years? :S

Oh yes it will. This is how laptops work.Thy have to be opened and cleaned at least every 6 months or the vents will be blocked of dust and other elements.

You should definitely open it and clean the dust off or send it to a store if you don't want to take any risks.

Get a cooling pad.  Twas what I did.  You can find some nice ones from cooler master for like 20 bucks.

Spraying it the other way may loosen up the dust that is caught, making it spit out the vent hole when it turns on.

The standard paste that they use is probably crap so applying good thermal paste will improve temps a bit.

Or you can get one laptop fan cooling things. But that makes it harder to sit it on your lap.

Could I have a picture? And generally a phillips, reasonably small one. Some PITA laptops use Hexscrews etc.

I can post one a bit later, but that lack of visible screws makes me think that the rubber feet has to go (I hate it when I'm right about these things -.-)

Could be. If you're delicate (flathead/razor) they're usually not an issue and stick right back on.
