only buy it if you are getting it cheap used or something. If you are talking full price, then just get a 4790k. if you can get it for sub $200 though it is a great chip.

I still urn a 2700k with little to no issue. I'll actually be refreshing that system instead of building a new one this year.

How much can you get it for? If you already have the motherboard to support it and you're just upgrading, go for it.

Otherwise newer tech usually isn't too much more.

Thank You for the replies. But how well would a Radeon 7850 work with an i7 because I am reusing alot of parts (The 7850,the RAM and Windows)plus the RAM has dual channel support for the core i5's and i7's.

It is a great CPU but at what price are you purchasing it at and do you already have a motherboard for it? Z77 motherboards are hard to get.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

I do not have a Z77 motherboard. But after some detailed searching I found 3770's and 4770's for around the same price so I decided to buy either the 4770 or 3770.But how will this CPU work with a 7850 GPU?

get a 4770k with z97/87

it will work ok. if youre only gaming, you rather get a 4670k and save the 100€ for later to buy a better gpu (280x, 290, 770, 780) ;)

I'd say keep the 2600K nothing good is at the table right now for Intel.

Well there is Haswell-E...

Our Grace. The Feathered One. He shows us the way. His bob is majestic and shows us the path. Follow unto his guidance and His example. He knows the one true path. Our Saviour. Our Grace. Our Father Birb has taught us with His humble heart and gentle wing the way of the bob. Let us show Him our reverence and follow in His example. The 2600K will power your GPU just fine, in any Games, without bottlenecking unless the game engine itself is quite shit and not-optimized.

Overclocking a 2600K nets great results & improved allround performance in all things.

2600K VS todays i7's, your looking at stuff all increases in gaming, however video encoding if thats your thing, is still potently fast, just 'not as' fast as newer CPU's.

If your grabbing a 2600K for under $150 then I say go for it. Anything more and I'd suggest investing in a new platform with warranty and improved performance.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Change of plan. Will my current CPU (AMD Athlon II X4 760K @ 3.8 Ghz) bottleneck a R9 280X?
