Is stuttering in game a sign that i pushed the overclock too much?

Artifacts and crashing are typically a sign that you have pushed an GPU overclock too far.

Stuttering can happen for all sorts of reasons, even with stable cards depending on the game, the drivers, and other factors. Was it stuttering before you overlocked?

What resolution? Which games? Which settings?

290x is no slouch and it shouldn't struggle with much.

1080p bf4 ultra settings (preset settings)

I dived immediately into overclocking(so i didnt check during stock clocks)

and i am using a tri-x cooler!

Back em off and jump back into BF4 to find out eh?

Only BF4?

DL GPU-Z, leave it open while running BF4 and check the sensors tab when you alt-tab/leave game and see if its throttling itself.

Total System Specs?

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

nvm the stuttering stopped when i went back to stock clocks... Any reason why overclocking causes stuttering?

Was just curious...

So.. Only in BF4?

Stutters on Every Map or just notice it once..?

Because I've seen stutter movement happen myself in BF4 when I had network connectivity/internet problems.

Restarted router, back into BF4, was fine.

Are the stutters at sequential intervals or more random in nature.?

random. D: it stutters randomly on everymap (when i oc that is at 1200 MHz (GPU clock speed) and 1650MHz (memory)) but i am able to run heaven for an hour without any issues....

Installed to a slower mechanical HDD (that maybe has an issue your not aware of) ?

Have you set High Performance in Windows control panel's Power Profiles. I think by default it's on another setting, and may affect your CPU clockspeeds while Gaming

1200Mhz is a nice Overclock, how bout you back it off to ...... say 1125mhz (same voltage as 1200mhz) and see if it stutters then. (Still overclocked, but not pushed as far as 1200mhz with your current voltage)

Then Try stock clocks (you said this is fine) but with a small amount of added voltage (see if its this addition causing the stutter when at stock clocks)

Bit of trial and error to do...

What AMD GPU driver packages have you used? Just the one version, or others via uninstalling-reinstalling

Sourced from online I hope, not your CD.

Nvm the stuttering is back... but less frequent

I am goin to bed.. lol 1am, big day tomorrow.

But my post goal was to clarify if you use same voltage @ 1125mhz and it stops.... 1200mhz could be too high for that voltage.

If you use stock clocks (which works or did you say it also does it), and add a tiny bit of voltage (and it starts stuttering) then it could be a power delivery issue.

It is kinda working at 1125 MHz... (only stuttered once! :D) haha my PSU sucks and i am getting an EVGA g2 850 watts like next week! (WEW) Good luck tmr! :)
