HDD writing errors

How critical is the data on the Seagate?

My best guess is that the drive probably is failing, and I would suggest backing it up ASAP (if the data is critical), and buying a new drive.

I have 2 drives in my computer, an 80 GB WD Blue drive used for my OS, and a 1 TB Seagate Barracuda that I use for mass storage. Lately (as in, the past couple months) my computer has flat-out stopped recognizing the Seagate, sometimes in the middle of reading/writing to the disk, and other times, on boot-up I show only one drive.

I have tried multiple SATA ports on the motherboard, and multiple SATA cables, including the one that's currently used on my OS drive, and nothing has prevented the issue from happening. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this? After some additional troubleshooting on it, I've come to the conclusion that it seems to only happen when I am writing data to the disk, reading does not have any effect whatsoever.

For example, I'm trying to download/update a game, but the drive loses connectivity with Windows mid-way through the download. I have had it happen when reading, and once on boot-up, but it seems to happen most when writing to the drive.

Is my storage dying? D: Apologies for the odd gray highlighting of my text.

Here's my build:

Intel Core-i5 4690 (stock cooler)
MSI H87-G43 motherboard

Sapphire Radeon R7-260x
8 GB G.Skill RipjawsX 1600 Mhz RAM
1xWD 80 GB HDD (7200 rpm, I believe)
1xSeagate 1 TB HDD (7200 rpm)

If I need to add any more information, please let me know. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Alright. Downloaded, installed, and I'm currently running the Short Drive Self Test (has been going for the last 8 minutes), are there any other tests you recommend in order to diagnose?

The guide for SeaTools states that the SDST should take 20-90 seconds, and I've blown past that timeframe.

Hey there, I would also suggest that the drive might be failing, so the best thing to do first is to back up all your data.

Were you able to run the SeaTools and if yes - what did it show?
