NEED HELP! (virus n stuff) :3

Go to solution Solved by Lumi,

yes, you can. You can also get them through .pif's.

Also the guy saying jpegs, lol no. You can't bind a virus to an image file because it won't run when windows photo viewer opens, it'll just corrupt the image and make it not view able.

If you ran it PM me on here and I can get on TV with you and remove it. Also change your steam account information immediately. Oh and give me the URL personally so I can null route their server.

Can you get a Virus (or Something) over a file that ends with .SCR ?

Windows says its a screensaver but i got this file from a (confirmed) scammer in steam So yeah.

if anyone knows a lot about such stuff pls help!

You can essentially get a virus from any format of file...

glad i could help. Also people who make this malware are generally newbies so really just open regedit and navigate to  HKEY_CURRENTUSER > software > microsoft > windows > run

Then look for anything suspicious.

Apprantly you have never heard of ADS. You CAN get viruses from jpegs, its happened before. ADS(or alternate data streams) are just one of the ways you can do that. Granted that technique isn't as effective as it was in past years, but it is still on method. Plus you don't know what other viruses the user could have. If they were infected with a virus that modified the registry to cause all jpegs to be scanned by a malacious exe(EXTRK.EXE is one example of such), then jpegs can be a source of transmission.

I am whatever I am.

Threres apparently a WINRAR Bug...

If you put the file in to an archive and then open it from there...

then there will be no Administartor information (or however its called) and you will open the file directly with no veryfication!

Shit but i dont care! (well i lost 50 Euros)

you can send viruses trough any file even jpeg

No you can't. A virus in a jpg would never run. Yes you would have the virus, it would make the image a little larger, but it would Never hurt your computer in any way. Viruses are only dangerous when they are run. The purpose of a virus is to run code that the creator made. For files other than exe and bat the virus would have to hack the program you use to run it which isn't very common with auto updating programs.

Once the image is processed the virus will be set free not open processed. As i said any type or file

Also to you

A JPEG is a file can get infected. However, in order to activate the virus, the file must be run. As the JPEG file is an image file, it will not be executed as long as the image is not processed by any other type of program.

Hence, if the image is executed by a program like a library or a database, the system can get infected.

no. you're also incorrect. image files and executable's are 2 completely different types of data.

I'm sorry are you stupid?

You just linked me a thread about a virus that over writes files. not a virus that is originally stored and ran from an image file.
