So, my mom needs a new computer for her just basic stuff like email, surfing the web, watching Youtube etc.

And I recently built my computer this year, so I was thinking of building her one. The only problem is I'm struggling finding parts.  Its not I can't find parts I'm just struggling to find good quality parts for the budget.  All she wants is a pc to do basic stuff.  The budget is less than $800NZD.  Which should be fine for just basic stuff.  What I was thinking about:

CPU: Pentium G3258

Mobo: H97-D3h by Gigabyte

HDD: WD Blue 1TB

PSU: FSP Aurum 400W 80+ Gold

Windows 8.1

RAM: 4GB Gskill Value series.

Total: $750NZD.  So, could you find any better parts?  Or is this about as good as it gets?

Thanks, though is the pentium G3258 compatible with b85?  I thought the b85 chipset was for haswell?

b85 will work with haswell but it's cheaper and doesn't have much features as h87 or h97

I know, but will it need a bios update to work with the pentium?

It works, there's only the question if the manufacturer has updated the UEFI to support Haswell Refresh SKUs.

yeah, I dont really want to take that risk.   If it needs an update, I'm screwed.

Unless you can take the 4670K out of your current PC and put it into the B85 board, then flash it.

Get a cheaper case like Fractal Design Core 1000 and use the money saved to replace the 1x4gb ram with dual channel 2x4gb ram.

single stick is still cheaper

http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/parts/memory/#sort=a9

fractal design core 1000 doesn't fit a hyper 212 evo, added a different case just in case the OP wanted to fit a hyper 212 evo or another cooler at that sixe.

you dont need a 3rd party cooler.  Stock one is fine.  There's no need for overclock since his mom won't need the extra horsepower.

Just in case if the OP wanted to add a hyper 212 evo or some other cooler at that size. What if they want a more quieter cooler or lower temps or wanted to upgrade to one in the future?

But it all depends on the OP on what parts they want to choose for their build.

The machine will be used for internet browsing and youtube, so the CPU won't be pushed to its limits.  TC won't be overclocking because he is getting non OC board.  Considering he is on a limited budget, why spend the money on a 3rd party cooler when the stock fan can do its job just fine?

That is true, i'd just left the option on there if the OP wanted it or not, if the OP didn't wanted it then just get a cheaper case.

Yeah, thanks.  But, the pentium has 2 cores, at 3.2GHZ....

Its probably never gonna go above 60-65c on the stock cooler.  Thats fine by me.  But thanks.

but, 1x4GB is just easier to find.  I don't think dual channel will really be top priority.  I want a Corsair case for this because they are easier to build in.

Go with single channel for sure, benchmarks have shown that there is no difference between dual and single in most applications. Plus it's much cheaper.
