Hey guys, this is my (obvious) throwaway account. I've just entered ninth grade, and I was wondering what some of the older forum users wish they had spent the time to learn or what they think I should learn at my age, when I have plenty of time. I guess I understand a fair bit about PC hardware but only a tiny bit about software and programming. What should I spend my time learning and where should I start?

Sorry if this is out of place, i can move it.

maya, 3ds max. Unreal engine. Drafting/Architecture. The adobe collection.

Thats what i learned in grade 9.

what you should also learn is more programming languages. and more chemistry and physics if you're really interested.

Learn about all these things used in computing an you'll do well in chem.

I just entered grade 9 aswell and IMHO if you want a job in computers in the future get all the hardware stuff down pat NOW, I've been pretty knowledgeable in the hardware side of things for a couple months and I am currently learning C# (Working on a GUI meal tip calculator right now that I may port to Android) so once you get comfortable with the hardware side of things I highly suggest you try a variety of different programs (Such as editing, 3D modelling etc.) and just see what you like. I also really suggest you give coding a try, I find it really fun personally and it's always a good skill to have but I'm just a grade 9 too so take my advice with a grain of salt :)

My Current Build:

Intel i5 3570K @ 4.4GHz 1.11V, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, Asrock Z77 Extreme4, Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz, Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, Asus GTX 760 DCII Overclocked, Corsair CX600M

Well that's good, hardware makes sense. I understand PC building, part selection, etc. I just don't know where to start with programming and 3d modeling

For programming and 3D Modeling just look on Youtube, there are plenty of great tutorials! :)

As for myself I got really into wanting to learn to code after watching Barnacules Nergasm's "Codegasm" series :D He does a great job of teaching and watching his videos really helps to get started with coding (His videos are teaching C# which is one of the main languages to make programs for the Windows operating system but there are ways you can port your C# apps into apps you can use on an IOS or Android device :))
