Using cmd+R when booting up will bring up a recovery page. Just for your general knowledge. Not sure if it will help but it's basically a slimed down portion of osx that let's you reinstall or recover.

Okay cool, verify your HDD and repair http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1782

It says: The partition map needs to be repaired because there's a problem with the EFI system partition's file system.

There should be a button under verify disk.

Close disk utility and open up terminal and type:

fsck

did it very quickly and the last thing it said was: The volume OS X Base System appears to be OK.

in progress...

it is saying disk0s2:  I/O error. a few times i dont know if that means anything

it generally means the disk is toast. aka a hardware failure. if you can pull any data off the drive I would suggest doing that and then replace the drive.

Edit: that is what I am reading off the internet.

Okay, hate to break the news but it seems like either the Disk or the Logicboard of the mac is damaged. What I can recommend at the moment is that you go to an apple store or ifixit store and book an appointment to have it assessed. They will be able to tell you what is wrong and what will be needed to be done to fix the problem.

Sorry that it has come to this as I know it is a crap one to have a computer part stop working.

Best of luck.

Okay, try boot into OS X now with Command-V like we did before.

ive been googling it and it sounds like I/O error is meant to mean that it probably a hardware issue I might leave verbose mode running for a bit just in case and if nothing works buy a new HDD
