Nvidia Drivers keep becoming corrupted

Go to solution Solved by dsbaule,

So, I'm sort of reviving this topic just to update you all on what happened...

After updating all my drivers (The intel chipset one seems to have been the main one) the card was fuctional for some time, but i ended up getting the same issue once again, and worse than ever. No driver install or anything seemed to help, so i decided to file for an RMA with EVGA.

My card is currently at their RMA Office, and after chatting with an EVGA representative (Jaeson W) he confirmed that my card did fail testing, as quoted below. In other word, my card was defective. I should be getting a new one soon, will post about the RMA process in the future probably.

We just test to see if we can replicate the problem here to verifiy if the product is defective, then we send it back to the factory for further diagnosis and refurbishment if it's salvagable.

It did fail testing though

Daniel

Ooooh

So it was indeed the card

Jaeson W

Yep"

Let's see if i'll have any problems with the new card.

I've been having a problems with Nvidia's drivers for some time, for some reason they keep on becoming corrupted, and i'm greeted mid-gaming with a blocky screen and a frozen computer. Sometimes just restarting works, but most times it happens again after the windows logo disappears...

Booting into safe mode works fine and uninstalling the drivers and re-installing them usually works, but after a while it tends to happen again...

The games i've been playing are csgo and borderlands 2, so i don't think it's their fault.

Is anyone else having the same problem? If so, do you know how to solve it?

System specs:

- Asus sabertooth Z87

- Core i7 4770k

- Nvidia GeForce GTX 780Ti

- Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz 32Gb RAM

- Wd Green 3TB Hard Drive

- Samsung 840 EVO 256Gb SSD

- Running Windows 8.1 64 bits

Have you been overclocking? When I OC'd by 670 too far and ran furmark it immediately crashed the drivers, try running the card at a lower clock speed through afterburner/PrecisionX etc.

Did you use driver sweeper to remove the drivers when in safe mode?

I've been getting a constant blue screen to error code 124 on my graphics card as well.

No, i haven't overclocked at all. But i used windows' program removal tool for uninstalling it, and then geforce experience to reinstall...

Download driver sweeper, it's on the Guru-3D website, use it to completely remove the drivers and all other NVIdia stuff. Then reinstall, grab a copy of furmark and crank it up. If you get crashes then, you will need to RMA.

Mine doesn't even give me a code, all i see is weird blue blocks

Do the blue blocks show up in the game before the drivers crash? Those sound like artifacts which you should only be seeing if you've over done your overclocking on the GPU.

No code on startup or anything?

The blocks show up as soon as the pc freezes, but i have not overclocked at all

And no, i don't get any codes

Hey there, @dsbaule!

I'd suggest to back up and perform a fresh install of Windows.

I think this will do the job, if it is software related.

If the blocks on the screen appear even after a fresh install of Windows, it's more likely that you are having a hardware problem.

So I'd suggest to check inside the PC and see if there's any dust in the cooling fans.

I hope this helps you!  :)

I hope I can help with any storage issues that you may have!  ;)

Checking for that was one of the first things i did, i cleaned all the dust filters and checked to see if all fans are running and they are...

I thought it might be a hardware problem but it works fine without the drivers

Did you solve the problem?

If no, did you try the fresh re-install of Windows after all?
