I found out about he 5820K and that it has 6 cores over the 4 core cpu's. Question is, how fast can the 5820k transcode plex videos and other videos? Also, how long does it take to render with the cpu? Thanks for any help!!!!

I don't really know about transcoding or rendering, but from what I've heard around here, it can take advantage of multiple cores and more cores is better.. The problem is that X99 motherboards and DDR4 memory is quite expensive here. Yes, it is better than the mainstream quad-cores, but could end up being a lot more expensive. Also, as this is an LGA2011-3 chip, you should definitely overclock it.

Google 5820K Benchmark and have fun!

:o the 4790K is 1-2 points away on most of the benches that is pretty darn close.

To be fair the difference was a bit larger in 3d rendering etc and in some benchmarks the 5960x is actually twice as fast as the 4790k, but it really is closer than it should be considering the pricing.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

the X99 and 2011 socket stuff is enthousiast class so it's normal that you have to pay a premium for stuff that won't make much difference unless you're a profesionnal poweruser who wants to save time cause time is money and rendering faster or transcoding faster results in more profit for some folks who do 4K porn video encoding out there ;)

Sure, but even in video editing it's apparently not that much faster.

depends on the sofware, if it can leverage 16 threads it will be as you said twice as fast, most video processing and 3d rendering sofware will make use of 6 to 10 threads though...
