Will a dual core CPU bottleneck 2 x GTX 280 in SLI?

Dual core doesn't say anything.. If it's 7 years old, then yes. If it's a newer one, then probably not.

Possibly, but it's not really easy to find benchmarks on such old products that would be valid in the modern day.

 

I guess the only way to find out is to try it, unless someone else has done it.

Umm 2x 280's will flog a single 290.

Maximums yes, but they don't fare as well when it comes to minimum frame rates.
