Stock CPU fan on GPU?

Kimchi

I remember some video I saw before where a guy slapped his 212 onto a 780. Could this be done with a stock intel heatsinc?

While it could be done it is far from recommended. It only cools the GPU itself, not the VRAM modules or the VRM's.

not to mention whatever cooler is on the 780 is probably better than the intel stock cooler anyway ^^

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

100% true. The intel stock cooler doesn't even have heatpipes whereas the 212 EVO and other aftermarket coolers do have them

well most cpu coolers are  rated TDP of like 80-140 not the 200-250 that a gpu would need

Why would you want to replace a Graphics Card's cooler with a stock CPU heatsink? Even beyond, why replace it for a CPU aftermarket cooler? Like @Archangel1994 mentioned, a CPU cooler only cools the CPU chip, whereas the Graphics Card cooler cools the GPU and RAM chips.

CPU stock coolers ARE NOT intended to handle temperatures from heavy CPU load.

GPU stock coolers ARE intended to handle temperatures from heavy GPU load.

"Aftermarket" coolers are the best options for both CPUs and GPUs. Be that liquid or air.

*Aftermarket GPU coolers are the ones that come already installed in the graphics card and have the GPU name (Radeon something, GeForce something) followed by another brand name like EVGA, MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS, etc, which's the company name responsible for the cooler/PCB.

Is there any reason you need to change your graphics card cooler? Is it broken?

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790k | CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 | Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth Z97 MARK 1 | Memory: Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB 1866MHz | GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 4GB Windforce

Storage: Samsung 840 EVO | PSU: CM Silent Pro 720W | Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe | Headset: Corsair Vengeance 2100 | Keyboard: Logitech G710+ | Mouse: Razer DeathAdder Chroma
