First of all, let me tell you the situation. I have my 2.1 speaker connected to my Asus Xonar DX sound card using its main audio port at the back of my case. The front panel audio port on my case is also connected to my Xonar DX. Whenever I plug in my old Logitech headset to the front panel, I need to change it manually on the Xonar DX software so it can detect the headset, not my 2.1 speaker. I play games with my friends a lot and I use the headset mainly for teamchat. Recently, the mic on my headset just died and I need to get a new gaming headset. Now, I am still a bit confused about it because most of the popular ones are using USB connector, while I still want to use my Xonar DX.

The other day, I looked at Logitech new gaming headset the G230 and G430 unboxing video from Linus, and since I am a bit of a blue color freak, I really love the look of the G430. Linus also said that the main difference between both of them is that the G430 comes with a USB sound card. So basically both headsets are the same.

If I get the G430 and also use the USB sound card, should I still be able to switch to my Xonar DX while I am not gaming and just listening to music with my 2.1 speaker? If the answer is yes, which one do you think is gonna produce better sound on the headset, the USB sound card or the front audio port connected to my Xonar DX?

If you have other gaming headset recommendations, feel free to put them in the comment. Budget is not much of a problem, but I never spent more than $70 on a headset unless it is really worth the extra money.

As for switching to your xonar, Yes it'll work and It will likely sound better,  But the great thing about the 430s is the usb soundcard is a dongle, It can be used with any headset and detached
