MOBO & CPU COMPATIBILITY

I was wondering if the MSI Z87-G41 PC MATE mobo is compatible with an i7-4790k cpu.

It hasn't been compatible in the past but a little research says that it is.

Just wanted to make sure before I made any purchases.

PCPartPicker suggests that it might require a bios update.

 

Why don't you get the ASRock Z97 Pro4 instead. It will be compatible out of the box.

Probably yes with a BIOS update, but you need a CPU compatible with the standard bios to do that.

 

If I were you I'd just go for a Z97 board, which will have full compatibility right out of the box.

Go to MSI website for that board, look under compatibility and it will tell you which BIOS supports it, different revisions will come with different BIOS' so check with the reseller.
