So, I've been barely out of my bedroom for about 3 years since my father died.  I'm taking the first step and going back to school.   Its going to be super hard but I know I have to do it.

So, I've heard a ton of bad things about high school.  Are there any tips to surviving?  I'm a fat, ugly nerd.  So, I'm hoping since allot of you guys are nerds you can help me out.   But the top thing I'll be scared about is the girls, I litterally faint and sometimes collapse and have attacks when I'm around girls.  It might sound funny or weird.  But I've been stuck at home for 3 years.

So, I hope you guys can just give me some tips when I go back.    Thanks guys! :D

Be yourself.

Tell people who try to change you to go fuck themselves.

Be confident. <--more important than anything else.

Embrace who you are--nerdiness and "fatness" and all. Most people, girls included, don't care about looks/weight. They care FAR more about confidence/personality.

Read through this thread. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/201238-noobie-high-school-tips/ Will just copy/paste my post from there, here.

Stay on top of school work. It will matter and you will regret it if you don't.

Thanks, I'll try that.  I'll be sure to remember.  I have one friend still who goes there, he says I'm better than the IT teachers, so I hope I at least be friends with the teachers.

I'm the same way as you (personality wise), just be yourself, and try to find a group with similar interests as you. There's clubs, sports, a bunch of stuff.

Well for starters you're not a fat ugly nerd. Well ok, you might be fat. But ugly is highly subjective and even really beautiful girls often think they're ugly.

Just walk with confidence. Even if you fake it, it looks good on you.

Don't be a douche. Know your position in school. If you're just entering high school, don't walk in like you own the place.

Make eye contact and smile. Always remember chances are most people there are just as nervous as you, and if they're not they're excited to meet new people.

Join a school group that has interests similar to yours.

The girl thing, well. Sometimes it just comes with age. I used to turn beat red when a girl would talk to me.

Set goals. Make a friend in week one, talk to a girl in month 4, etc. Maybe focus on losing some weight.

I doubt someone who has barely left their room in 3 years is going to have any confidence, and it's not something you can just magic out of nowhere.

My advice OP is find friends like you, keep under the radar and don't even think about girls until you get to college.

If its a big school, then there will definitely be other people who are also into computers, although the amount of people interested in computers is still quite low--but the number of people who likes games is pretty high.

Even if you fake it, it really doesn't matter. Just giving off the appearance of confidence will change everything.

I do, I'm 15 and I started working for them when I was 13.  Technically its voluntarily because they can't pay me yet, so they give me electronic devices and license keys for their products in return.

How can you fake confidence? Maybe it's because I'm a complete fuckup of a person, but I don't really see how that's even possible. Faking it to me sounds a lot like having it.

When it comes to worrying about what others think of you, just remember this: "People have better things to do than think about you"

And if you're worried about talking to girls, this may be wierd advice, but talk to random girls online. If you say something and you screw up, you don't have to worry about talking to them or seeing them.

I'll admit this worked for me. Worked quite well. Most of all, be yourself. Try not to be cringe-worthy ^_^

Speak as if you know you're right--whether you are or not.

Speak loudly--not screaming, but not that soft whispering either.

Walk around with your head held high--rather than looking down.

its not a huge school.  But my mom is fairly popular around town.  So, apparently I have a reputation at school.  And I built my friends computer and everyone's seen it!  So, hopefully I'll make friends pretty soon.

Have this as your mantra :

"I don't care, what they're going to say!

Let the storm rage on! The cold never bothered me anyway!"

(Im being serious you shouldn't care about the mean things people say to you)

Not to be rude, but your title says your depressed.  So maybe you could follow it too :)

Haha, well we can tell you definitely don't have self confidence..

You can fake it, it's easy. With practice, at least.

I worked with this one woman, and one day she said "Big D, you always get hit on at the desk and you just laugh and carry on chatting. But I can tell on the inside you're shit scared."

1) do your school work

2) a swift kick in the nuts solves most problems

3) The sun will in fact come up the next day

4) you attract who you are, not who you wish to be <- who you are has the ability to change, you just have to.

5) You may not be able to control the wind, but you can adjust your sails

6) stay under the radar and don't attract attention to yourself

7) still thinking of number 7...

2) Such a bitch move. That's an excellent way to get a bad reputation. You can also severely injure, or even kill someone.

3) Unless it rains..

6) I have mixed feelings on that one. I get the point, but sometimes you need to be seen to be appreciated.

Speak as if you know you're right--whether you are or not.

Speak loudly--not screaming, but not that soft whispering either.

Walk around with your head held high--rather than looking down.

I agree completely with the last two, however do NOT ever do the first. That just makes you look like a complete asshole.
