My cm storm trigger cherry mx blues just arrived today and omg I did not know it was this loud.

I dont know if my family will allow me to keep this keyboard. but I will play with it as much as possible.

I love the feeling and typing with this keyboard.

I will have to return this keyboard if my family disapproves this. I might have to get a cherry mx brown keyboard like the quickfire pro.

Does anyoe know if the browns any quieter than the mx blues? and how much quieter?

Browns are quieter and give the same typing experience as blues.

Well yeah my family kinda got used to the noise eventually. It's kinda like torture but it's a melody for me :D

Anyways if you are finding it too loud, check out the O-RING mod which will dampen the sound.

Here are an example of them

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

Browns have no click but still have the bump, the same as the blues.  They are not as loud as blues but, IMO I don't like the feel of them, they have a much softer bump and you get half the feedback.

I'm typing now on a Cherry MX blue Ducky.

I love the tactile feedback or click it gives, but its tooo loud lol :(

am I able to do the o-ring mod for blues? or is the o-ring mod for browns and reds only?

Just slapped some .2mm O-rings, the red colored ones from WASD, onto my Ducky Shine II TKL with Browns, very quiet now and it doesn't take away from the feel either.  Love it.  I put .4mm O-rings, the blue colored ones from WASD on the Corsair K70, and those were just right for that board, quiet as well.  Unfortunately, O-rings will not eliminate the artificial click built into Blues.  It will dampen the bottoming out, but not the distinct click.  Just to confirm, I threw some O-rings on my Ducky Shine II with Blues, yeah, no luck there, it will not eliminate the click.

Also, if you fancy something a little nicer, Ducky makes a Shine II with all Clear(White) switches.  Like the Browns but a bit more feely.  PChome Global has it available and they pretty much ship anywhwere.  http://global.pchome.com.tw/english/?mod=item&func=exhibit&IT_NO=DCAH0X-A73194853

If you like the Trigger you can just switch out for one with Brown switches.

Browns don't have the loud click, but if you bottom out the keys when you type, they can still be noisy.  At that point you can get o-rings like others have suggested.

do you know what are the size of the o-rings? I wonder if I can get them at a cheaper price elsewhere. or do you think wasd sells them at the best price

Would it be cheaper to get o-rings from WASDkeyboards? They also provide a helpful chart there to let you see what effects different o-rings have.

I buy mine from WASD.  My recommendation would be to buy both the red and blue and see which you like best..  Red are .2mm soft and the Blue are .4mm soft.  If you can only get one then go with the .2mm.

WASD are overpriced for some o-rings.. lol I rather go the cheaper route..

WASD charges $18 for 125 o-rings.. thats which is 2x the amount as amazon...

They look the same to me and I am pretty sure they should work the same.

  • 2 weeks later...

I find that the .4mm rings take away too much travel and the return doesn't feel right.  I really do like the .2mm rings, the red ones from WASD.  Seems they are just the right type of consistency to dampen the sound but not alter the feel all that much.

Except for the pro not offering greens, the only difference is the shape and the backlighting, If you want full backlighting, the trigger is the way to go, it also has a few macro keys, but I personally like the clean blocky asthetics of the pro and never use a backlight. On that note the triggermight be more rigid because of the metal backplate.
