Need help on making a decision!

Go to solution Solved by Guest Gazzer96,

If you hated the DS, then you hate portable gaming in general. I'd say get a gaming laptop or don't leave your house. Nothing else will make you happy.

Also, I still think that leaving your PC on all day and trying to play it's high res games on a 5" 720p screen is the worst idea ever. The power consumption would be insane for playing a game on the go and most games weren't even made with such a small screen in mind. Do you guys expect to actually be able to read anything on the shield? That hardly even worked when playing Master System games on the Game Gear and those were both low res systems that were based on the same hardware.

I've currently got a gaming Laptop and it has doing a very good job over the years, but I do need to get a tower at some point as the 3GB Nvidia Geforce GT 445M is starting to struggle.

I am thinking about coming back to the world of handheld gaming after the many years when I used to have the Nintendo DS (which I hated), but what should I choose?

I am struggling to choose between the Nvidia Project Shield and the PS vita; lots have said the PS Vita has stunning visuals, but I have also seen that Nvidia Project Shield has good visuals as well on both streaming from the PC and the games made especially for the handheld console, plus the battery life is said to at least last 8 hours when in use.

When you tell me that I should go with this or that make sure you give a reason why I should; please don't say something like 'get XXXXX because it is better' because that tells me nothing.

If you need to know, I am planning to get a handheld console sometime between this Christmas and mid time of 2014.

Help will be appreciated! :)

I agree, the visuals on the vita are amazing, from personal experience, but then you have a dilemma.... The selection of games to choose from is very small, and downloading games on a 32gb card will only give you a couple, but on the Shield you get as many games as you could ever need, and it is still 720p, which would look great on that small of a screen. I would go for Shield, as it has so many more features, compared to the vita. If you ever use a vita, you will find it is easy to use, but very limited to what you can do. I hope this helps, and I would honestly go for shield.

You should go old school like me and play on the GBA! Well if you are looking for a new console, the 3DS looks quite promising with a good selection of games. The PSP Vita is pretty cool though, but yeah, atm has a very limited selection.

What kind of games are you wanting to play and what kind of things do you want from your handheld? Just the ability to play games?

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

I mainly just want to play games on a handheld console; I  prefer games which are 3D and I like most genres of a video game, that includes: Vehicles (Forza, Grid, Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal), FPS (Doom, Quake), fantasy (Skyrim, The Secret World) and so on; the only types of 2D games that I like are ones which involve hand-to-hand combat, like SFxT and Mortal Kombat.

From the games I will want to play on a mobile device I am a bit worried about if they can cope with my demands, then again the Vita is able to run NFS: Most wanted as well as CoD.

Yeah the Vita features a selection of the games you wanna play but considering all the other games the Nvidia Shield is probably the way to go. The issue is you can't exactly play everywhere at any time exactly unlike what you could do with a PSP Vita for example. Perhaps it would be a good idea to wait until there are more PSP Vita titles to see what exactly is on offer.

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

Ps Vita will have remote play in all PS4 games.

It looks like your PS Vita could effectively turn into a portable PlayStation 4, according to a report on Eurogamer. A trusted PS4 developer spoke to Digital Foundry saying that Sony is mandating all PS4 games to have PS Vita Remote Play functionality, except for those games that use the PS4 Eye camera. Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Worldwide Studios, has confirmed the report on Twitter.

Vita Remote Play would allow players to enjoy PS4 games directly on their Vita, much like Wii U's off-TV play with its Gamepad. Remote Play has been a feature since the PSP and PS3 but only for a limited number of titles. Nearly all PS4 games could be played on the Vita using PS4/Vita's Remote Play.

Remote Play for PS4/Vita will work by downscaling the 1080p image to Vita's native resolution (960×544), compressed by the PS4 and transferred to the Vita's screen using WiFi. It's similar to OnLive streaming technology, except it would all be done locally on your network, improving the quality of Remote Play.

The Vita could use some more games in its library in the near future, and this seems like a good way to expand on that library. Well, for people who are planning to buy a PS4 anyway.

Would any Vita owners here use this feature extensively, or do you think PS4 gaming should be done exclusively on the big screen in your living room?

I have played CoD on the vita, I can tell you right now, it is not great. Not one bit. I mean, yeah it's great and all, on such a small device, but the controls are clunky, thumbsticks not very great, and the graphics are what pc is like for CoD on lowest settings, no shaders. Plus, there is always emulators :P

Yes, that is true, but you still have to consider, the Shield will always have a larger amount of games, the games you want to play, and there is no guarantee that this will happen. Plus... the controls on the vita (THUMBSTICKS) are not very good.

Didn't mean to post two comments the same. The first comment didn't show up until I posted another one.

Now you have triple posted XD

Anyways, It's up to you on what you get. Honestly, going from keyboard to controller is hard, but keyboard to handheld is horrible. So anyways there is a lot to get used to.

I can use both Controller and keyboard easily, but I have had problems with handheld controls since they are so small.

I don't really play many games for gameplay anymore honestly. I play most games just for the graphics.
