From Dell Inspiron 580 to something else!

EST_FatBoy
  • So in 2010 I got my first PC. I had been using laptops because my dad wouldnt buy me a PC. So finally the day came when he bought me a Dell Inspiron 580! I was soo happy!

The specs for it were/are:

  • MOBO: Foxconn DH57M02 Optiplex
  • CPU: i5 650 @ 3.20GHz 2 cores (4 threads)
  • RAM: 2x2Gb Hyundai
  • HDD: Seagate 1Tb
  • PSU: Some 300W one
  • GPU: ATI HD5450

  • In 2011 I got a GTX 550Ti for christmas. I took my PC to a repair place, because I was too scared to mess around with it myself back then, and let them install it. They also added a Technoware 420W PSU.

(This is a newer picture, couldnt find an older one)

  • In 2013 I bought my friend Arma 2 CO and he gave me 2x2Gb Crucial RAM. It wasnt easy to add those 2 sticks because I didnt take out my GPU.

  • And now in 2014 I finally had enough saved to upgrade the GPU, PSU and the case!

I am running two 1280x1024 monitors atm. Well one because the new GPU only has one DVI-I. :D

Now that I think about it, I should have gone with a new mobo, CPU, case and a PSU instead of a GPU.

4Gb is a bottleneck. I have 4gb of 2400mhz in my PC and It slows my computer way down when im playing a game or doing alot of things at once I suggest upgrading to at least 8gb

I think that he has 8gb, since he started with 4 and he said his friend gave him 2x2gb, and you can also see he has 4 sticks of ram in his pic.

Ok i see that now but it looks like they are mismatched with 2 different types of ram

next thing is should probably a platform upgrade. that i5 is probably not feeling to great, either than or an ssd would make your system run much better than it does now. Also new monitors would not be a bad idea.

Desktop -  i5 4670k, GTX 770, Maximums VI Hero, 2X Kingston Hyper X 3k in raid zero.

Laptop - Lenovo X230 Intel 535 480GB, 16GB Gskill memory, Classic Keyboard Mod, Triple USB 3.0 Express Card.

  • "RAM: 2x2Gb Hyundai"

"In 2013 I bought my friend Arma 2 CO and he gave me 2x2Gb Crucial RAM. It wasnt easy to add those 2 sticks because I didnt take out my GPU."

Sorry about me being lazy with the quotes but here's why they're mismatched.  I don't think it matters if they have the same timings and frequency but I'm not a huge RAM specialist.

I disagree with all of you. At 1280 x 1024, his entire rig is overkill. Untill he goes up to 1080p, everything he has is fine.

Yup, and I will be buying a nice 1080p monitor when moving next month. Both of my current monitors were used before me. The main one has a dead pixel strip and the other isnt that bright.

When Im moving, I plan to have the 1080p monitor on the table and the two 1280x1024 mounted to the wall.

I took my CPU, Motherboard, and RAM from my old Inspiron 580S. Motherboard has started smoking with a damaged capacitor and a couple damaged solders. Thankfully I should be ordering new parts to replace those three things in about 2-3 weeks.
