Upgrading audio. Is it worth it?

Go to solution Solved by SeanBond,

Sennheiser game one? Why? Get the 363d with a integrated sound card. You won't have to buy a sound card. However I did just look at pricing and it went back up, I bought it last month for 230. Try looking for it at that price.

Hello guys,

Currently im using a Corsair Vengeace 1500 headset with its integrated usb audio. Im thinking of buying the Sennheiser G4ME ONE with an Asus Xonar Phoebus. The thing is, this would set me back about GBP320 and im not sure that the difference in quality would justify that. What do you guys think?

@Kloaked sure, im open to suggestions thats why im here. I had a look at the FiiO, does this have any sort of software included? Equalizers and whatnot.

Keep headset for headset use. You dont need that ultra clarity that people claim that is essential in competitive gameple, but thats not the case. As long as you get certain range of sounds delivered to you, and you can pick up on that, thats all you need. Heck, play around with EQ if you need to.

Anyway, if you want to 'upgrade' audio, I would suggest you to get a good headphone, and either choose desktop/pro mic. Modmic is good and all, but over-hyped. The only real reason why you would want to use modmic instead of desktop/pro mic is if you want to use voice activation mode in softwares like vent or mumble. But modmic is too sensitive for this so that even a slightest bump on the modmic cable or rapid keyboard/mouse clicking will activate voice activation, making it essentially a push-to-talk mic. If thats the case, you might as well get a 'proper' mic, and that way you can sound much more clear (current modmic, modmic 4.0 iirc, is slightly muddy).

Anyway, TLDR, get headphone + desktop/pro mic, if you want to upgrade your audio.
