Hello, I have a problem with my pc, it just randomly gets bsod (DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE), just before the pc freezes but I can still move the mouse pointer. After the reboot, I have to unplug the power cable because the HDD doesn't show up in the BIOS's boot menu.

PC:

CPU: Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5 GHz (got it in 2011)

RAM: Kingston 4GB DDr2 800MHz  (got it in 2011)

GPU:MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 ti Twin Frozr 2GB OC edition (got it a month ago)

Motherboard: Asrock G31m-VS2 (BIOS Ver 1.20 which is the latest) (got it in 2011)

PSU:CoolerMaster GX 750W (got it in 2011)

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro x64

HDD: Samsung 1TB, model ST1000DL004

This started happening in early 2013, so I changed the HDD to the one I have now and had no problems, 3 or 4 months ago this started again, also my EVGA GeForce GTS 450 died so I got the 750ti.

I tried restarting Windows, formatting, HDD regenerator, ran chkdsk, ran memtest and found no problems.

Here is the .dmp link

Any help would be appreciated!

Can you provide us with the error code that goes along with your message during the bsod?

These codes look somthing like this x99371047 often inside ( ) however is depends on the error and bsod. These codes can provide you with some useful info. The message is just a message that can mean a number of things, however the error code is usually more specific.

After speaking to one of my office workers, he sent me to a page with the following:

DRIVER_STATE_POWER_FAILURE is a blue screen error that occurs when there is a change in power state, i.e. when you shutdown, restart or put your computer to sleep, hibernation etc. So, while this process is running all of the hardware installed in your computer are directed to change their power state to lose power ( to shutdown ), but when there is a fault in a particular device driver, the corresponding device does not respond as Windows wants it to and hence you face this STOP error.

I suggest you check and double check all of your drivers and then run a windows update before you try swaping psu's etc.

On a 2nd, note it might also be due to the bios update you did. I doubt it but it says this in the bios version log "Modify for Windows8 shut down behavior." if all else fails when you try the 2nd psu then try to reset the bios and flush it if you can, then install an older version. (1 Behind)

The BIOS update was done after the problem started, the last time the problem happened was before I got W8.1, I used to have W7, but there was no BSOD it just reboot by itself with no error code at all, after windows 8.1 was installed the problem stopped for a while, the shutdown behavior is changed, I ain't got any problems with W8.1 until now.

Have you checked your parts manufac, maybe even for your psu. Maybe they are awear of the issue and have released a hot fix.

Check for any missing drivers by doing the following. Or since your on windows 8, just seach for the word "device" it should still show up. Let us know what you find.

In that case I have no idea. Try to quickly check all of the tabs for "!" icons beside anything. As if any (Most often the Human Interface Devices) this is the cause of the error. (IE. A usb or thumb drive)

Just run the system with the very min, same psu. No graphics card or usb extras etc. Check to make sure the error still happens as if it doen't some of your other hardware might be damaged. If it does however still give you the error then try a diffrent psu.

(Just saves your time, insted of swaping psu's to find its your mb pci slot for your gpu etc.)
