How We Could Cool Quantum Computers

Time to talk about things we don't understand :P Seriously, I really dont understand this, well at a rudimentary level I get the concept but outside of that my ass is lost. However, the fact that they have at theory already on how they will be cooling Quantum Chips is very cool to me.

So the basics,

The chip, well probably more like part of or an element as its described as a Quantum dot, has energy (of some description) passed over it a source and a drain (I suppose like positive and negative charges) and as that energy is passed over the Quantum dot its forced to take energy (heat) with it.

This could take up to 50% of the heat and seeing as its in its infancy its very impressive.

Yeah...

At least the article helps us understand the way it works.

"OK, so, imagine that the quantum bit is sat there, doing it's quantum computer thing, gradually getting warmer. Nalbach has developed a system which places a tiny electromagnetic prong at either side of the dot, between which a stream of electrons flow—right over the top of the quantum dot.

Thing is, one prong produces electrons with an upward spin—that is, a real rotation—and the other is hungry for electrons, but ones with a downward spin. The electrons are drawn to the latter prong, but have to change spin direction to be accepted by it, and they do that by picking up a little energy, in the form of heat, from the quantum dot over which they're passing. Bingo: the electrons are on their way, and heat is removed from the qubit."

everytime i read an article about quantum mechanics I'm like "I want to be a scientist." Then right after when I try to read an article explaining quantum mechanics I'm like "Nevermind"

Finally my Santa hat doesn't look out of place
