Computer Can't Access Files on Tablet USB

Windows 8.1

 

Tablet is Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8" 

 

I plugged everything in, it won't recognize. It used to work. Lately my USB things are going dead. 

 

Connected as USB device and also tried camera. Nothing works. In the PC settings, it's on there but I can't access the files.

Only cable that came from the box, not sure if there are any other lying around. I'll try my laptop, it should work.

 

I think it's the USB connector on my mobo.

It's the same when I plug it into my laptop. I wiggled it, the cable shouldn't be a problem, it's charging it.

I believe that charging and data need different pins connected I had plenty of devices that needed my to hold the cable at weird angles for it exchange data but it would charge anyway

did you try kies?

samsung made a program to connect samsung devices on the computer

Thank for trying to help, I'll use kies as a last resort. It used to work for me, just a couple weeks ago my external hdd died and now I can't access my tablet from PC.

i guess if you try kies and it dosn't work then it could be the cable that's the problem. It could be giving power but not data.

i guess if you try kies and it dosn't work then it could be the cable that's the problem. It could be giving power but not data.

I'll wiggle it around and try to do some other method but in a few minutes I'll use kies. Hopefully that will solve the issue.

Of course. I used it before, even now I plugged it in, the driver installing thing popped up and finished installing. Everything is normal, just I can't access the files.

What is that? All I know is that I connected the USB as "Media device MTP". I also tried Camera PTP. Neither works.

 

Also, on the tablet, it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting.

After a google search it seems Samsung has removed USB mass storage so unless you root you don't really have access over USB, you could try Airdroid but it's slow to move anything above a few MB due to it being over WiFi.

I don't want to set up Airdroid.
