I wanted to get into LoL but I'm extremely confused by the mechanics of it. I've played my fair share of strategy type games (halo wars, FF tactics, disgaea) however this is a little but different than I'm used to. Any tips for new players looking to get into it?

Got a level 30 account, play it once in a blue moon, then quit again due to the fuckwittery of the gaming community. Such as people jungling with characters that are better off in a lane, or people who rage if you land the killing blow, cry "omg killstealer noob" then proceed to sit in the spawn and shitpost the rest of the match. Or feed the enemy team.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

Dont try to be good first few games..just experiment and try as many champions as possible to find your playstyle and to learn their abilities.

Don't chat with people besides your friends if you don't want to rage. I also recommend you to mute them when the game starts.

Save your IP points on tier 3 runes and champions. Don't waste them on runes under tier 3.

Be patient because learning curve is quite high so try to enjoy game playing with friends. Playing alone is not recommended for long sessions.

If you're thinking of getting into LoL, I would say to have at least one friend to go into it with. It makes it so you won't feel as bad when you are learning, a little easier to understand teamwork within the game, and quite a bit more fun. As far as understanding how the game works, there are a few tutorials you will go through if you start a new account (which I highly suggest actually playing through) and there are recommended builds for champions when you open the store.

As you get better and you begin to understand the game more, you can start to work on your own builds or use the builds from mobafire (http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/browse) for your champion.

If you make it this far, I would definitely recommend saving up your IP (currency gained from playing) after about level 15 until you reach level 20 and can buy tier 3 runes, after which you should buy a full page for whatever champion type you play.

Finally, don't be afraid to branch out into Dota 2, HoN, or other MOBAs if your friends want to try them. They are all pretty great and each have something a little different to offer.

My best advice for getting into league is having a friend help you. It took my friend 3 tries to get me interested in LoL.

play it love it. But get some tough skin before trying. If you get passed the 12 year olds yelling when you die than you will have fun

yeah its worth it. The initial games you need thick skin for but once you get into it, it can be lots of fun. There's also a good tutorial entitled "welcome to dota, you suck", appropriate haha. You can also make custom matches against bots to get used to the hero's. Worth the time investment (I'm sitting at ~3.2k hours atm lol
