Hi,

I bought a motherboard a few months ago on eBay and haven't been able to test it until I got all my components two weeks ago, and I noticed that it was acutally deficient : one ram slot doesn't work at all and was even stopping my computer from turning on, then I noticed that one of the USB ports was also defective so plugging something in would cause a shortcut or something like that. So I'm actually about to buy a new one, but I just saw Linus' latest video so I'm wondering if there is a way to fix it. I have never done something alike but since I have nothing to lose with this motherboard I'm open to try pretty much anything.

Do you have any suggestions of things to try? Otherwise, when I got a new motherboard, do you have any suggestion of what I can do with the old one?

Thanks

An usb port can be fixed but is not worth the effort, the ram slot no.If those are the only problems use it as it is hoping that doesn't have something more important fried.

ps:most of the times is not the ram slot broken but the ram stick itself try that slot with another stick

Beware of him that is slow to anger; for when it is long coming, it is the stronger when it comes, and the longer kept. Abused patience turns to fury.

Have you asked ASRock about it?

No, but I contacted the seller and they haven't replied. They had a great feedback. It a British company, they had their own online shop but I chose to purchase on eBay for more security, but eBay told me that they couldn't do anything because the transaction was made more than 3 months before.

I'd recommend asking ASRock

OK I just contacted them but I don't think that'll be very useful since I don't live in the US or in Europe (I'm in Africa) so if I have to return it for example, there wouldn't be a huge difference between this and buying a new one, and it would also take longer. I think that I just got screwed so I'm okay to pay for my mistake. That said, I'd like to know what I can use that faulty motherboard for, or if I can somehow fix it.

That's true. I'm not 100% sure then. Just keep on annoying the eBay seller.

Wow. Well, sorry to say this, new motherboard is needed.

Yes I realized that quite a while ago, but as I said, I want to know if this faulty motherboard can be good at anything when I get a new one. By the way, I'm currently using it, but I removed my GPU until I get the one in the next weeks. I hope I'm not taking a bit risk by doing so.

You could keep it for troubleshooting. Say if your GPU didn't work, you could try it and launch the BIOS to see if it worked in this motherboard, or you could do the same with a processor.

ASRock will honour the warranty with a proof of purchase.

Or as it was a big seller they may choose to, but if you've left feedback at this point eBay won't rule in your favour as technically you're obligated to test before doing so.
