Hello LTT community.

I am going to graduate from high school on December (i live in the south hemisphere), so i just want to know where i can go to study for game development, or something to do with videogames (i love videogames, and because of them my grades are not so good :( especially doing IB diploma).

Your help will be appreciated.

My university has a Game Developer career, I have a few friends on it and looks pretty decent. You can learn online, but at the time of getting hired the diploma helps A LOT if you don't have contacts/recommendations.

In which university are you studying @ForsakenLive??

Hello tehre,

Well I'm currently in the same postion as you, only I live in Ireland and I wrote my exams way worse than you did. So what I did was that I went found some courses that don't require good exam grades and going to start building up from there to University, I'm not sure can you do the same where you live, but try looking into it.

I'm living on the EU right now, studying software engineering. See if there are any short careers, licentiate degrees or technicature that can get you in game developing where you live.

Computer sciences is different from what a game developer does, getting into that major will get you a lot of useful knowledge on software; but it's not the same.

Maybe i am going to study something to do with computers and develop games as a hobby.

I don't really know if there are short careers in my country...

Thanks for the help!

If you want to go to the United States, here's a top 50 list (no idea how accurate it is as I'm a Canadian and not familiar with these schools). I'm sure you can search around on Google for other countries if you'd rather go somewhere else.

Or perhaps just get into a good Computer Science program anywhere and learn game development on your own. The foundation in programming might make learning it yourself a little easier, as well as the degree at the end might help you find work easier (no guarantees though).

Companies tend to want people with previous experience, so build, distribute, and maintain your own game during your learning process. It'll give you something to show employers besides your degree. And you never know, your game could always become a hit and you could make some good money from it.

You can download unreal engine 4 for $19 its the full engine and end the subscription and still keep the current engine build. You can develop and program games and play them. Theres literally tutorials to help walk you through the engine and Introduce you to programming games in c++. Of course you still need to learn actual c++ to begin with. Its a very impressive engine. I have it its worth the $20 even if your not really using it develop games for PC/consoles.
