So I know a person who is selling their GTX 680 for £200, should I buy it or should I just wait and avoid SLI?

It seems like a good buy. I wouldn't go sli with it if I didn't need to but instead build another system for the house.

Pretty good price if you ask me, nothing wrong with SLI if you need the extra horsepower. I'd suggest that if you're gaming at 1080p one will probably be plenty.

Yeah like Jimbo said at 1080p, a single 680 is surely enough for even a few years but at £200 it's a great buy. I will buy it myself if you don't wait it!

Well if you do run it in SLI, you'll at least have some kind of future proofing. You'll be able to play for ages until you start struggling with games.

If the card is in good working order and you need it, then take it.

If you are planning to buy it, I would discuss for a trial for the gpu to see if it is in good condition. Run benchmarks like Heaven and game on it to see if it is creating any artifacts in the video.

Make sure that it works well and hasn't been "abused" by it's previous owner. Also make sure that they are trusted, and if it's a teen, talk to their parents to make sure they know what's happening.
