First PC Build for RM3500 (around $1100)

Hello all! I am a mechanical engineering university student from Malaysia and I would like to replace my old laptop (Asus N55SF) which is dying soon to a Desktop setup.

For the desktop set up, I require test running computer codes (C, C++), CAD programmes (CATIA, Solidworks) as well as gaming (waiting for the new AC) and I am finding the right components to do the above requirements.

As far as I can see for now, I found a combination of computer parts that will suit my need and my budget (RM3500/$1100).

CPU - FX8320                                RM 539 ($170)

GPU - MSI R9 280                          RM 809 ($256)

MEM - RIPJAWS X 16GB 1866       RM 619 ($196)

MOB - GIGABYTE 990FXA-UD3     RM 499 ($158)

HD - WD BLUE 1TB                        RM 169 ($53)

PSU - SEASONIC G 550W              RM 309 ($98)

CPU COOLER - HYPER 212X         RM 129 ($41)

CASE - ENTHOO PRO                    RM 329 ($104)

(The case cost a lot but I just love this case, Hardware Canucks FTW! no offence to die hard LTT fans.. B) )

Total Cost = RM 3402 ($1075)

Please do comment and advise me on the parts selection. Thank you and have a nice day!  :)

PS : Computer parts in Malaysia costs more than the US/Canada

what is the price of the 4670K or 4690K

RAM will be like 8GB 1600MHz kits and mobo will be to pick the Z97 like the one from MSI Z97 SLi Plus

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

it supports SLi and CrossFire when you want to go multi GPU setup

and will fit nicely with your 4670K/4690K pair with the CM 212X for good OC

8GB 1600MHz Kits will do nicely

Hello neozlee,

If speaking about the storage personally I would pick WD Black hdd as WD Blue drives are mostly appropriate for everyday computing, storage etc.

As far as you're going to use your pc for CAD programmes, gaming etc. you'll need a faster solution with better performance which are WD Black drives actually.

I'd draw your attention also to the fact that the warranty period for WD Black series hdds amounts 5 years meanwhile the warranty period for WD Blue drives is 3 years.

You may find some more info on the WD Black drives here: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=760

Best wishes, hope it helped you.

Prices in Malaysia are more expensive compared to the ones on pcpartpicker.

I never seen a Diamond GPU, EVGA products and the MSI mobo that you introduced in the brochures for any IT stores in Malaysia.

Sorry for the negative reply but thanks for helping me out!  :)

$1172 = RM 3703!  and in Malaysia, it might cost up to RM3900

I am saving up from my summer internship, don't have that much money yet
