The Corsair Cooler will only work for reference cards that come with blower style coolers. The blower fan is retained and used to cool the VRM's.

I would again say the kraken. You can fit a normal fan which wont probably be as loud as the Corsair one.

Why did you make another thread about the same thing?

I just thought it was more appropriate under the cooling section :x sorry :/

But are aftermarket VRM heatsinks sufficent? Like these? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835426042

As long as you attach them properly and give them sufficient airflow they should perform fine. That is not a guarantee though, there are a lot of variables that could alter the performance and actually make some VRM heatsinks less effective than others.

What GPU are you trying to cool?  I personally recommend the G10, it works like a charm, and heatsinks are easy to add.

I'm trying to cool a r9 290! :D

So are heatsinks needed?

Yes, heatsinks are 100% necessary.

These are the ones I used:

2 Packs of Cosmos Copper VGA Heatsinks <-- You might need 3 packs for your GPU

1 Pack of Cosmos mini Aluminum VGA Heatsinks

2 Packs of Sekisui Double-Sided Adhesive Thermal Heatsink Tape <-- This is more than enough, its not expensive, and best to have extras

Optional: Aftermarket Thermal Compound, it often comes with the AIO Cooler, or if you have some already, if not I recommend the Gelid GC-Extreme

Optional:  VGA to PWM Fan Adapter  <-- I highly recommend doing this to free up a motherboard fan header.  No fan curve, set it to 100% speed at all times.

Depending on your card make and model, you will also need Copper Shims.  Find out the required thickness!  You can't use any ol' size, this is a specific measurement that you have to figure out.  You might also not need it depending on your model.

Ask for help on the Overclockers.net G10 Owner's Club for the best answers.

I can't say, it looks like too little in my opinion, but I don't know for sure, I did my G10 with a 780.  Ask on Overclockers.net.  Post your exact model and keep track of your before and after temperatures.
