So I have insanely slow internet, any bascially the only way to download games is going to a friends house. Since I don't want to bring my heavy 50lb computer everywhere, I bring my laptop. I was wondering is there anyway that I can download game on my laptop and transfer to my desktop. I was thinking could I get an SSD and move it back and forth like a flash drive? If that doesn't work could someone please recommend me other solutions.

Yes, something like this works just fine.

For example with steam games you just need to copy the game data into your SteamApps/common folder and install and then install the game. Steam will automatically detect the game files and only download a few KB of registry or settings files.

Personal Build Project "Rained-On"

helped building up the CPU Overclocking Database and GPU Overclocking Database, check them out ;)

On Steam you can just use the "backup and restore games" option to create a backup of the game on your laptop. Then you can move the backup copy to your desktop, then restore the game on your desktop from the backup..

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

Steam allows to backup games. You can download on your lappy and make a backup. Then move the backup to your PC and restore it.

I can restore these to a USB, correct? I don't have to use a SSD?

1. Backup with steam on your laptop.

2. Move the backup to your USB flash drive.

4. Move the backup from your USB onto your desktop.

5. Go into steam and restore from the backup.

But as skull said, you will need a USB drive big enough to hold the backup. :D

Any drive that's big enough.. You can also span the backup across multiple smaller drives if you need to.

Generally what I've done is just backed up the games to my laptop's hard drive, and then shared the folder over my local network. Since my desktop, laptop, and router all have gigabit ethernet switches, I can move the file over my network extremely quickly. Then just delete the file off my laptop in order to save some space, and I'm all set.
