Oh jeez...you may want to replace your PSU before putting your GTX 660 in.

By today's computer standards, that NOT a real "500W" Power supply. This piece of....thing...can only output a maximum of 288W on the +12v line (80%+ of the PC uses power form the +12v). It's more like a 300W unit at best.

A true quality built 500W - 550W will be plenty for your system. Here are a few examples

Corsair CX500 500W -- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027

Antec NeoECO 520W -- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371030

XFX TS 550W -- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013

if i try to run the GTX660 on my current so called 500w psu i may damage my MOBO and my gpu right???

Depends how the PSU was built, and if it has any safety protections designed into it...typically crap PSU's don't.

Worse case scenario...the PSU failing, sparks, smoke, and possibly taking other components down with it -- this could include CPU, Mobo, GPU, HDD's, etc.

If it's 1/8 decent, it will trigger the emergency shut off.

If your system does go through emergency shut off, it STRONGLY SUGGESTED to not use the GTX 660 (take it out of the PC) until a new replacement PSU is put in.

Having the system do an emergency shut off everytime you fire up a game...can you say corrupt Windows?

Better than the PSU you have now but not very good overall.

http://www.coolermaster.com/powersupply/thunder/thunder-500w/

As you can see the the Cooler Master Thunder 500W is about a ~400W - 430W according to specifications.

For around 3,650.00 these would be better:

Corsair CX 500W - 3,700.00

Where are you buying from? Amazon or local store in India?

Do you have any PSU from

maybe but i said i wont upgrade for 5 yrs so i may as well stick to this coolermaster psu

If you are thinking of sticking with the PSU for ~5 years DON'T GO FOR THE COOLER MASTER. for the life of your PC and graphics card, don't.

SPEND THE EXTRA AND GET A GOOD QUALITY PSU!!!!

basically what we're trying to say is, if you have a 500w ps, it most likely isn't rated at 500 really, so you always need a little more than what you really need. Only very high end gold certified/platinum ps are rated at what they say they are...

600w should work, What model is it?

Cooler Master have good PSU's, especially their very good quality VS / V line.

Example is the Cooler Master V550 - 550W. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171092

- Stable Power

- Quality electrical components

- Built in safety protection (over current, over voltage, etc)

- 550W PSU that can output 540W from the +12v line

- High efficiency (80 PLUS Gold)

The low-end Cooler Master products are not great...or total garbage.

Here is a Cooler Master Elite 460W. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171046&cm_re=460W-_-17-171-046-_-Product

- rated as 460W but can only really do 324W

- No official 80 PLUS rating

- low quality electrical components inside.

You can look at professional reviews -- all of them say this unit is useless and poor quality.

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cooler-Master-Elite-Power-460-W-Power-Supply-Review/1005/1

Another example of false advertisement...

This unit can't deliver its labeled power...Cooler Master counterfeiting their own power supplies.

I'm not saying Cooler Master is bad. I use Cooler Master in my PC's.

A company will have good and bad products. You need to know what is good, and what is bad. What can harm your PC, and what will help protect it.

Not just Cooler Master -- look at Antec -- almost 30 years in making power supplies. They still have some bad quality PSU's.

Same thing from the big name Corsair.

Enermax too -- been in business since 1990.

If you plan to keep a power supply for that many years, it is SMART and SAFER to buy a better quality unit.

If you buy a cheap PSU, it can fail on you in 2 or 3 years, and who knows what will happen when it dies. Will your system be okay?

The PSU is one of the MOST important component in ANY PC. It is essentially the back-bone of the system. All your components depend on it. If it fails, you can lose the whole system.

Spend $300+ on a graphics card, $200 - $300 on CPU, $200 on motherboard....put everything in the hands of a $50 PSU? Why?

Save a little bit money but risk your entire PC? Why?

Rather then the TL;DR here's long story short

Some cooler masters are good PSUs and will not blow up in your face. Many of the cheaper cooler masters are not good PSUs and may blow up in your face.

ok that is the bad version from CM

you should be looking for other models like the VSM or V

but they will be much more expensive

any Corsair CX range?

oc'ing gpu barely makes a difference so dont worry about overclocking gpu and dont worry about sli either..... and yes even i know it actually supplies 510w and not the claimed 600w

Then take it as a 500W. Yes a 660 will be fine at stock speeds.
