Is it really needed to reinstall the OS?

Is there no way to get your PC up and running without reinstalling?

I have quite alot of games and i can't bother getting the registry keys out for those games, since some of them i don't even have physically anymore...

Will be upgrading from a: Gigabyte X58A-UD3R Rev2.0. to a: MSI Z97 Gaming 5.

Running Win7 Home Premium 64Bit atm. i will be using the same OS if reinstall is needed.

Okay thanks, will try that once i order the parts.

Its 50/50 if it will work. Some mobos are more strict than others. Usually best reason for it is to get rid off all junk that has gathered around. Uninstall all mobo drivers (chipset, audio, lan etc) before changing drive from one mobo to another. I would also suggest deactivating windows since you will need to reactivate it anyway.
