I have been looking into a mechanical keyboard (and new mouse and mousepad, which will vary depending on which keyboard I get). I've been doing chores around the house and have saved $135. I am stuck between the Corsair K70 black with red LEDs with Cherry MX Blues ($159) or the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 ($129). If I get the Corsair keyboard, the total cost (plus mouse and keyboard) will be around $250. If I get the Razer keyboard, the total cost will be around $215. Money isn't exactly coming to me quick, and I wanted to ask if it was worth the extra time and effort to get the K70. I am ordering all of these from pccasegear.com . Thank you for your help :)

My advise though off topic is get a smaller board and save some money. Also which mice are you looking at?

Razer is not liked by people because they say razer has bad quality control. Even though Corsair reviews all are full of failed LED's and such and Razer ones are generally good. I would say if you want green get razer if you want red get corsair...

Razer's build quality is essentially non-existent. No PC gamer will take you seriously if you tell them that you use Razer peripherals. Razer are the turtle beach of PCs except Razer are much, much more expensive.

Well what are your planned mouse and mouse pad, maybe we can cut them down a bit in price to make the K70 combo look more appealing. I would recommend the K70, but then again I actually have no experiences or knowledge of it, I'm just speaking what the majority think.

I have an older Black Widow (2010 I believe, got it on sale) and I was very disappointed with it. I would prefer failed LEDs as someone mentioned Corsair has. I had a sticky 'R' key in less then a year. It was really annoying. RMA where I was living at the time was very complex so I just stuck with it. It eventually went away (magic? I did nothing but use it), but if you Google Razer sticky keys you'll see it's very common. I doubt I'll buy Razer again. Way too expensive for what you get.

hmm..like the other nice lads already posted; the best you could do is a tryout...maybe there is a store or mall nearby, that have displays for varios brands and models...the other detail would be your taste...you will use it everyday and it should as  comfortable as a delight for you to look at...the high price is a bummer, but under perfect condititions the keyboard will last decades...

This is an alpha...this is not a beta. Yeah...and we're running it on production ! [LinusTech & SlickPC]   ~    More Power Than All the Computers in 1999! [Our Servers ^^]

Assuming you live in the US, the K70 is only $107 on Newegg.

I can't recommend a Razer board, they downright suck. Especially with their new switches.  They are terrible for typing because of the raised actuation point. And the gaming improvement over a normal Cherry switch is marginally nonexistent. Not to mention they are Kahil and you have to deal with synapse.

A quickfire rapid is not a bad choice either, if you want to save some money.

Sorry for not saying which mouse/mousepad, if I get the Blackwidow, I will get the Deathadder 2013 and Goliathus Extended Speed edition, if I get the K70 I will get the Raptor M40/M45 and MM200 Standard Edition.
My mother is also using this computer and she uses the numpad, so I have to get a full-sized keyboard.
I live in Australia, so (most) Newegg products don't ship here.
The Blackwidow is the 2013 edition, because I'd much rather have German manufacturing on the switches.
There are not a lot of computer stores near me, the ones I know of are about 20-30 minutes away, and I'm not even sure if one of them has keyboards, so it would be pretty hard to try them out.
Looks like most of you are recommending the K70, and saying Razer's quality control and build quality are pretty bad. My friend (I play games with him, never met him) owns a Blackwidow 2013 and says he's had no problems with it.
Thanks for the quick responses guys! :)
