Hosting your own Rust Server?

HI guys, my friends and I just got into playing Rust and love it its so much fun but are getting real turned off from it since there are so many hackers on the servers flying around and killing people just as we get everything going. One of my friends has the resources to run a server for us to play on but what we arent sure of is can someone host a server for themselves? i know you can with minecraft and unturned but not sure about with Rust. Thanks

Not sure if this is still the case, but they only allow certain people to host, so you'll have to pay a server provider to host one. It would just be easier to go on an empty server.
