I'm looking to get a IVY-E (I7-4930K) and a Asus rampage Black Edition for my 18th Birthday. I work on some video editing projects, digital art and some gaming (a lot of gaming). Would this be a good upgrade from my current platform of a 2600K and a Maximums Formula V motherboard? Speaking of which I have motherboard issues around the clock and the CPU is getting a bit bogged down :C .

I wouldn't call it a major upgrade personally.  The difference between one generation of processors isn't going to blow your mind, but yeah, you'll notice a difference.

Eliminating motherboard issues, on the other hand, sounds like a major relief. :)

ExMachina (2016-Present) i7-6700k/GTX970/32GB RAM/250GB SSD

Picard II (2015-Present) Surface Pro 4 i5-6300U/8GB RAM/256GB SSD

LlamaBox (2014-Present) i7-4790k/GTX 980Ti/16GB RAM/500GB SSD/Asus ROG Swift

Kronos (2009-2014) i7-920/GTX680/12GB RAM/120GB SSD

Yeah, that would be a good upgrade, but I can think of better ways to spend your 18 birthday than building a PC. Much disappoint.

I thought the same way, however I've been very well off and don't have much other things to do :C

For Gaming no but for Video Editing sure

more cores are better

I would look at getting a sweet gpu

and a lesser board to get more fps

I would be moving from a 4 core Sandy Bride to a Ivy Bridge-E 6 core

Personally I would love to get my computer to a point in time that I will not have to upgrade at all until 5-8 years and this should give me enough raw power so I can wait this long. BTW I'm already running SLI GTX 680's 4gb overclocked

I'm sure it'll pay you some dividends in those heavily threaded video processing tasks, but like I said, subjectively I wouldn't call that major myself.  Not saying you shouldn't do it, just saying when I think major I think someone must be upgrading their Pentium CM to a Haswell or something.  Even though you're jumping to the E series, I'd call it minor.

Also I wish I was that rich when I was 18.  you little shit. :P
