Fan Connector Question

Go to solution Solved by MegaDave91,

okay thanks, what happens when i run out of fan headers on the motherboard? i cant seem to spot out many i plan to fill up all the spots so 2 fans front 2 fans for rad and 1 at the back.

You can use fan splitter cables to run multiple fans off one header or run them straight off the power supply via 3 pin to molex cables.

I recently started my first gaming build with the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 mobo. I also bought another 2 AF140 fans. The motherboard only has 4 pin connectors while my fans are 3 pins it should work the same way shouldnt it? Case fans plug into SYS_FAN correct? so what should i plug into CPU_FAN? would it be the ones i hook up to the radiator?

3 pin works just fine in native 4 pin headers. The pump will plug into the cpu fan and the rad fans will plug into sys fan (should be a cpu optional header as well).

Pretty sure you hook the CPU_fan to your pump, and radiator fans to system_fans.

You buy a fan splitter for a couple bucks.

There's also big connectors with molex plugs you can get, or fan controllers that go in your optical drive bays.
