READ BEFORE POSTING!!!

So I'm looking at Buying either the Steelseries Apex or the Ducky Shine II.

Now before you just say, "BUY THE DUCKY ITS MECH AND MECH IS THE ONLY ANSWER"

I am looking at the apex because it has all these features that i like (macro keys, individual back light, all the other great features)

Or im looking at the ducky shine II because it is mech and the quality is ridiculously good.

Now my argument is, the Apex has all these features and its only $99 whereas the ducky is $140 and only has build quality and mech on its side and truthfully i doubt the apex is likely to break that easily and its just sitting on my desk and im not a angry gamer so no smashing. also i havent used a mech long enough to say i cant live without it. so i wont really say "oh man i wish i had gotten the mech man i miss it"

So in recap.

Reasons to the apex:                                                                Reasons to get the ducky:

Features i want and "need"                                                       Mech

Cheaper                                                                                    SUPER BUILD QUALITY!!!

Not likely to break

I really like it and the looks of it.

Im leaning towards the apex but i want to know what you guys think.

Have you taken a look at the G710+?

It seems to be a good in-between.

I did actually read the whole thing. I'll respond a bit better. Mech keys are certainly better than membrane keys, but if you think the Apex keyboard is better for you(features, looks, etc) than the Ducky keyboard, then go for it. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices in order to get bigger gains.

There is keyboards with macros and backlighting a g710+ would be perfect

I dont like the look of the g710+ and i like brown switches ans with my build its really about asthetics and i know it shouldent be but if you are sinking 5k into a rig you want EVERYTHING around it to look good.

joel haven't you posted this already previously?

As much as you want affirmation of going membrane it's up to your personal preference at the end, for i can say the majority of us here can attest to using mechanical keyboards.

And, why limit yourself to just the Ducky Shine 2? If minimalism is not to your suite then going for something like the K95 that is feature packed is perfectly great as well (I hold aluminium body and Corsair in high regard)

Yes i did ask but i wanted to repost some more of what i found and see if anyone had a better option out there. also i have played with mech enough to know i like browns and not reds, If theres was a feature rich brown switch that had white backlighting and macros i would get it but by myself i cant find it and the apex is the best i can find.

I have nothing to offer you on that sadly :P

I got an entire arsenal of mech keyboards on my mind fulfilling possibly every criteria but white backlighting, brown switches and features only come in the G710+ at the moment.

In terms of that button press, mechanical keyboards will feel better and indeed usualy last longer in terms of build quality but you will have to pay that extra premium.

Sadly there aren't really that many keyboards that feature many macro keys (Corsair series pretty much) so you are really limited in that sense. In terms of backlighting there is still a fair list.

If you feel that you really wanna put looks (mind you the Duckys in particular look smexy) and other features before typing experience that I guess that is the main choice to make.

EDIT*** I found the https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQumo6su6SCCWpqViI070d0GjMcYXRJrjH2r5mb0cd0W1fVDeIm

It's called the Cooler Master trigger.

which you may like. You can get them with Browns, has a red backlight and looks fairly similar to the Apex with few macros!

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

Looks like it could use scissor switches and yeah, some people just like them.

What mech keyboards have you tried anyways?

They are membrane as far as I'm aware.

I've tried all the different types of switches, and multiple different brands of keyboard, filco, qpad, ducky, corsair, steelseries, cm storm.....hated all of them apart from brown switches, and even then I don't like the height and noise (I bottom out regardless)

also i havent used a mech long enough to say i cant live without it. so i wont really say "oh man i wish i had gotten the mech man i miss it"

That's a really bad reason to not get something.

You could say the same thing about SSDs. "I haven't gotten used to the speed of an SSD, therefore it's not like I'll miss having an SSD if I get a second HDD instead", or the same for IPS/120hz monitors..."It's not like I've gotten used to the picture quality/smoothness, so it's not like I'll miss it if I get a TN".

There's a reason people can't "go back" after using these things, and that's because of the impact they make to the user-experience. Typing is what you do most with your keyboard. Macros will only be useful in specific games and you won't be looking at the back-lighting most of the time, but key switches make a difference every single time you use your keyboard.

Personal preference.

Now before I say anything, stop going all tractor mode on me, mechanical switches are better decided by the community, and by that I mean there's (Not real calculations) 90% who like mechanical switches and 10% who dislike (Not real calculations) Well yes, you activate the key faster, better build quality. But there are people who dislike the feel of them and like membrane more. You won't do good with a thing that you do not like.
