So alright, My co-worker (F, 22 not geek at ALL) just got a macbook. I went arguing with her that Macs were shit! We already briefly touched the subject before but never argued that much.

The problem is: For every good argument I get, she's got a dumb one!

For exemple, she's comparing it to her 500 notebook, small piece of crap, and to her 5 year old 1500$ laptop. And she won't understand it's not the same thing!

Also, for her, «It's Apple, Apple's better.» Is a valid (and one of 3) arguments

She also says it's more reliable. Explain me how much more reliable it is than any other laptop with same-ish hardware?

She says it works with her iPhone. Of course but it also worked under windows.

A client overheard of argument and threw in that it works with all of the «goodies» you can get for it. Yeah, it works for sure with the 80$ mouse she just bought but not necessarly with any other mouse, while windows will work with pretty much any mouse, including the Mac «magic mouse» or whatever it is.

We also briefly touched the iPhone vs. everything else argument, but I'm not as much of a iPhone hater as I am an Macbook hater.

She doesn't know the customisation of an Android and for her going all the way in her settings to play with settings was a normal thing, and it was dumb to have a scroll down from top toggle buttons thingy like on Android.

She's a very nice girl and everything but I was genuinly mad because of her dumbness and ignorance.

So I guess I wanted to lay down my unresearched arguments for approval and also maybe some of you have good comebacks to dumb arguments.

Steve Jobs is Apple and he's dead. Didn't cut it. I had to tell her who he was.

Also She is the perfect exemple that Steve Jobs mentionned: People don't know what they want until we tell them what they want. Especially with the settings thing

Bah, sort of reminds me of my arguments I've had over the years with a bud of mine. He buys PC stuff mind you, but he gushes over Mac and iPhones, you won't believe the number of times I've felt like getting up from my seat, reaching over and slapping him on the back of his head (like how Gibbs would head slap DiNozzo on the back of his head). They do not know what they want, as you've said, and relies on the almighty Apple/Mac to tell them that this hardware, or software, would enable them to lead richer lives for Chrissakes. Anyway, my friend gushes all the time about how good IOS is compared to Android, how good OSX is vs Windows and such......I'd challenged to go Mac all the way if that was how he felt, but he refuses since PC is customizable, allows any compatible software to be installed and run....and simply versatile. Likewise, he has an iPhone 4S, but refuses to get an iPhone 5 despite my dares and taunts, he's using a Samsung S III Mini.....and a HTC smartphone (didn't get the model number).

To say that I detest Apple/Mac is an understatement, it's so, "My way or the highway" stance that Apple adopts that I can't abide...like nVidia, they are so into proprietary hardware and software. But, it will always sells well simply because it's a US company, and has homegrown support. Here in Asia, the iPhone is being hard pressed, with many Android based phones in the market, it simply cannot dominate the market like it does in the US (unless that has changed).....especially with Samsung being a very credible competitor.

It mostly about personal preferance. I prefer PCs over MACs, but I know that Apple makes quality prducts, and that Apple products are built with garenteed compatability. However, PCs are more customizable (as was already mentioned), but you have the risk of buying parts that are incompatable with each other. You can also build a PC with equal specs for cheaper. Apple does offer many warranties and features to go with their products as well (Apple Care).

The way I see it, this thread is the exact same thing as comparing fashion sense, or preferance of music. Everybody has their own opinions. Some people like one thing, other like different things. There's no reason to argue over it.

These arguments are so pathetic, what are we, 12 years old?

Here. I'm come from the Windows side of things. I play video games a fair bit so I don't have much choice as far as platform goes, but I am also a CompSci student, so the need for Unix-based tools is very high. I also do some contracting work for the University, primarily in the halls of residence diagnosing network issues onsite. Now I've had an HP laptop for little under a year and I've used *buntu on it for a while to satisfy the Unix side of things. The battery life has suffered utterly, the fan for some reason likes to max out 24/7 and the screen often doesn't work on startup. So I needed a new laptop. I bought a Macbook Pro 13" with the 2560x1600 display. Where I live, a monitor with that resolution is about a thousand bucks by itself, and the laptop itself is about $1800. So for $800 I got a solid, very well made piece of hardware, the knowledge that it is going to be reliable, th ability to NATIVELY install the tools I need/want, things like iperf, mtr, ssh etc. and it's quiet the entire time.

In summary: I've identified a quality piece of hardware that meets my requirements. So I bought it. Reliability means peace of mind, and that's all that matters to some people. So be it.

You Windows fanboys are just as bad, if not worse than the Apple fanboys. And you're just that, boys. Grow up.

If you have the money, buy anything you want... You wouldn't go arguing with someone who bought a Rolls Royce saying it was over priced and that a Golf can do the same thing.

I own a Mac and various other Apply products, I also have my own rig and help people with theirs. Just get on with your life and stop putting people down on the things they bought, regardless of your opinion.

You were really genuinely mad because of somebody's arguably well justified purchasing decision? How ridiculous. 'Hating' an inanimate object and the people who use them is inane. If you had any experience with Mac's, which you clearly do not, you would know why somebody would want one. Don't call someone 'dumb' and 'ignorant' if your own argument is completely unfounded. You even said yourself that you didn't really know what you were talking about. A lot of guys that still argue for windows based computers really need need to grow up, it makes the rest of look bad.

Macs are good for some stuff, mainly content production, and there is sometimes a need for one. However, when people buy a mac to use as a "facebook machine", it's a complete waste of money because they are paying a ridiculous premium for features they will NEVER use. And then they try to justify it and come out with stupid arguments which are either not true or not really important/actually an advantage. Apple are an unfortunately successful marketing company.

...

I've used my mac for over four years now, hasn't skipped a beat in all this time! That's more than I can say for any windows PC I've ever seen with my own eyes!

I'm glad for your coworker, she's gotten a product she likes, but then again I feel sorry for her that she has to endure guys like you. Why would you try to destroy her joy over her new laptop? Why would you start a tech argument with a non techie? Have you even used a MacBook for any extended period of time? You won't get any approval from me. Grow up man.
