Hi, i was using im+ extension for chrome for a while which was really convenient but now it cannot use skype anymore as many other ims

and now, even skype portable won't work, and i really don't want to have skype installed on my PC as it cannot be terminated in other ways than taskmanager + it have so much ads and an annoying interface

isn't there any other way to chat with your skype contacts?

Trillian 5, is the only IM service that support(ed) Skype text and audio only chat. The reason, is that the moment Skype created Skypekit, a program that acts like a layer to the Skype service to allow third party IMs to use the service (This is because Skype doesn't want to reveal how exactly their network works, for privacy, and protection), they jump on it and provided support, with right to include and distribute skypekit, part of the IM software. Video conversation support was 'coming soon', Skype said.

Sadly, there was a turn of direction for Skype (Microsoft bought them), and in order to make the service profitable (now have ads), Microsoft deprecated Skypekit, and didn't renew rights for alternative IMs to distribute it (you can speculate that it is to give you no choice to see the ads, by using Skype and not flee from them by using a third party IMs).

In result, Trillian 5 still supports it, and works with it, but you need to have skypekit already on your system, as they can't distribute it anymore.

By the way, if are interested in Trillian 5, let me know. I think it is an awesome IM, especially that no mater what network you use, it syncs your conversation between systems. And it looks awesome, likes it's part of Windows.

thanks for that tip, at least i can chat without having to install anything

You need to have used that email for making your Skype account or it won't work, that's the only downside. Might be able to set the email in your Skype settings and then be able to IM through the email itself but I don't know.
