SSD different size RAID config?...

Go to solution Solved by X1XNobleX1X,

ermmmhhhh sorry2 im newbie to this kind of world (im an old fashioned guy who thinks HDD is always durable as a tank)

raid 0 durability is different than single use one?and vector's durability in raid is worse?isnt vector kinda tough?

sorry for da question...

The basics with Raid 0.

You have two drives, for instance, you would be copying half of your data on one drive and the other half on the other drive. If one drive fails you lose all your data.

But you have nearly doubled the performance.

OCZ had the worst RMA rate ever for a SSD manufacturers. They have gotten better after being bought by Toshiba though.

So you really need reliable drives in raid 0.

Hi guys....

im currently using OCZ Vector150 120GB SSD and im planning to buy another SSD (OCZ Vector150 240GB)...the question in my mind is : can i RAID 0 both of the SSDs later?120GB with the 240GB one?

Thanks

P.S : sorry for bad english

You can but the total drive space will be 240GB

Formula = Lowest drive capacity X number of drives.

aww damn so its better to leave as it be?not to raid them???

Unless you really want the speed, probably not.

hmmm ok...lets say now im decided to buy 2 vector150 240GB SSDs....i can just raid the 240GBs and leave the 120GB alone right?

Sure, that would work.

If you're going to buy 2 new SSDs I would at least go for Samsung 840 Evo's, not OCZ.

yes

you raid 0 2 240 GB SDDs (total of 480 GB) for speed and leave alone the 120 GB one for extra storage or whatever

hmmm ok thx....

why samsung?isnt 840EVO using a TLC instead the MLC?or maybe because OCZ is expensive like crazy? :P

Yes, but reliability is a big factor, especially in raid 0.

I wouldn't risk raid 0 with two Vector's.

OCZ still isn't a reliable SSD manufacturer, even after being taken over by Toshiba.

The 840 Evo is only 10Mb/s slower anyway.

I remember purchasing a Vector recently and it died within a month. RMAed, sold it and bought a 840 Evo, also supplied all my computers at work with 840's no problems at all. (knock on wood)
