Hey LinusTechTips community,

So from over a while now I've been thinking if i should add the extra money and Build a pc or just upgrade the one I have, so let's get straight to the specs

CPU: i3 3220 3.3GHz

GPU: Radeon 7770 Limited edition/Ghz edition

RAM: Corsair XMS3 1600mhz 2x4GB

MOBO: ASUS P8H61-MX USB3   https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H61MX_USB3/

And I was thinking of lets say putting i5 because that would be enough for gaming for the next 2 years I think or maybe a better i7 (AMD would be a better choice for me but as i said that would need to be a new build, new mobo etc). And for the GPU i was thinking of Radeon R9 270 or 280 (the cheaper ones).

And with a new build of was thinking of going full AMD but I don't really know if that worth the money for about 2 years because thats how long i will try to keep this pc still alive and then just get a Gaming Laptop for light gaming because i will not have time to do as much gaming as I do now because ima Teenager I'm growing up so you know there will be no time.

The budget is not really a problem because if i decide to build a new pc it will be much bigger but lets say for an upgrade im looking for around £400-£500 and my Location is United Kingdom

Thanks for the help guys I hope the Linus community will be able to give their opinions on this.

I think an i5 3570k and 280 upgrade would be better than building a new system.

CPU: 6600K @ 4.6Ghz | COOLER: H100i GTX | MOBO: Asus Z170 AR | GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti Hybrid | RAM: G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB |

for gaming only the i3 still runs good. what you primary need is a better gpu. so get a 280. and then if you are not satisfied get the i5 3470(it will be very good for gaming for at least 3 years) . amd would not be a better choice than i5 ivy thats for sure

I think an i5 3570k and 280 upgrade would be better than building a new system.

he doesn`t have z68/z77/p67 mobo so no need for K cpu . and for gaming OC doesn`t do much

Oops, you're right my bad. the 3470 would be the best option.

Thanks for the Help guys yeah i was considering the same because the i3 now is a very good CPU that i have now running very good temperatures and when playing DayZ even though people say its CPu intensive it still runs good so i think ill go with the new GPU and if i still want something more ill just get the i5.

But i might still wait for other opinions.
