Hi Linus fans! (get the bad joke? *air cooling forum*)

i have a stock thermaltake v3 case with a scythe katana 3 type I cpu cooler, as well as a xfx r7970 double d.
i'm planning a fan upgrade because the stock fans on the case and cpu cooler are terrible and noisy.

is a NF-B9 as a fan on the heatsink of the cpu going to work?

are a couple nf-s12 the ideal choice for exhaust fans?

also, i'm not sure where to put the intake fans for optimal cooling. i have places for a bottom intake, a front (lower than gpu) intake and a side intake (about GPU level).

should I use them all? what fans should I use and where?

last, and of lesser importance : aesthetics. my current, rubbish, stock fans have pretty LED lights. can any of you recommend a way to light up my PC with green, low energy consumption, lights?

cheers! (:

Yes and yes. Just try to use a 140mm fan whenever possible for your case, I can recommend the NF-A14 in case you're interested. (pun intended)

Go with the NF-F12 all the way. You also should place the fans everywhere possible for best cooling! :P But take care that you have more filtered intakes than exhaust because of dust and positive air pressure.

The NF-F12 isn't compatible with his cooler.

But as Intake/Exhaust fans. :P

A 120mm fan in the front and side will be more than adequate for cooling, provided that your fans are well-performing.

I'd recommend that you use something like the Bitfenix Alchemy LEDs for lighting up your case.

Noctua's are not the only decent fan., just a heads up ;)

They're not optimized for airflow, whereas the NF-S12As are.

Linus just recently said, that pressure optimized fans are good for all places, especially Front intake because of the harddrives etc.

Yes, i can recommend Noiseblocker PL2 aswell! :) (again not for the heatsink because of size)

Not that the NF-F12s are a bad choice, they simply aren't designed for that sort of use. They're a good choice nonetheless, I just recommend the NF-S12As over the NF-F12s for what he needs them for.

I should add that you should consider using the 120mm Noctua fan as an intake to see how it affects your temperatures. I've heard a lot about high airflow-specified fans not performing well in certain situations while the Noctua fans I've seen haven't had these issues.

I thought about using the NF-F12s for the front and bottom intake because of the HDDs and the case sitting not very high above the ground and using NF-S12As for the exhaust fans, and a side intake.

by the way, the CPU cooler fan is pushing air through the heatsink to the back of the case, is it not recommended that i put an exhaust fan directly above the area where the CPU fan is getting his intake?

NF-F12 id you dont care about the look of them, but id your like me and you do care, you should go with corsair sp or af fans

CPU: i5 3570K @4.5GHz    GPU: R9 290   MOBO: ASUS p8z77-v  RAM: 8Gb corsair vengence   CASE: ARC MIDI  PSU: XFX pro 550W  HDD: 2tb segate baracuda
