Internet disconnecting often for about 5 seconds

Guest

So every hour or 2 hours my internet disconnects out of the blue for about 5 seconds, then it reconnects again.

It really is annoying when playing online games and I am on Skype often, so there is that too. Anybody know what is causing this?

Does it disconnect from the internet or from the router?

Not sure.... but my phone won't be able to connect either in that period I think.

Ah. Have you tried restarting your router, and updating it's drivers or software?

Next time it happens look at the lights on it and see if anything is different then when it is running normally.

You will probably have to call your ISP and ask them to diagnose it, since it's most likely an issue on their end.

check the signal levels on your modem, look up the manual to see how to do that...or just call your ISP and ask them to do it remotely for you

bad signals do this all too often

Alright will call them tomorrow and reset it in a while.

So is it only for wireless devices? Is it your desktop and you think the phone isn't connected or have you confirmed it? When it happened to me it turned out to be intrusion protection and it was set to block all traffic for a period of time. My anti virus has it and some routers.
