It will, but your PC will probably still act retarded because Norton can't fix what damage the virus may have done to your file system. This is under the assumption that Norton can even pick up all the viruses that might be on there, which is not always the case. 

 

Reformat and practice better PC use habits and precaution. 

At this point with moderate proficiency and stock MS tools you shouldn't need antivirus to be virus free.

Okay here's what is going on I took my brother's HDD to copy Some games so I ran a scan on it before opening so not to damage anything anyway there's one thing I want to Confirm I heard that viruses doesn't move to your PC until you open the USB flash frive or the HDD  and explore it is that true !?

If it's infected, it will do its thing without you even doing more than plugging it in and powering it, assuming it's well designed.

if it is a well designed virus you can't save your stuff without saving the virus with it if it's a not a very well designed virus just move all your stuff to an other hdd or a usb key than delete all the patition on the disk and make a fresh install. (before doing all that you can try northon it will not hurt). Oh and well designed virus are super rare these day so there is 90% that you'll not transfert the virus with the back-up (depending on how do you got that virus)

this statement is highly true I'm not running any anti virus and I have disabled windows fire-wall since like for ever and haven't got a virus since. You just need to know what you're doing and to don't click on anything to never get a virus
