CPU for budget editing PC

Go to solution Solved by Aniallation,

If it wasn't obvious the fx6300 and i5 will require me to buy motherboards as well as the CPU. I have a fm2 motherboard I could use:)

If you already have a decent FM2 board then get the 760K and possibly OC it a bit. Otherwise you could sell it and get an 8320+mobo. Video editing is a lot more multi-core optimized then any game currently.

Hey guys, I'm in a bit of a dilemma in what CPU I should pick up for a light video editing PC for my girlfriends birthday.

I've kind of narrowed it down to a Athlon 760K, FX6300 or i5 4430 (or w/e it is).

I realize the i5 will be faster than both but the thing is I have a relatively good brand new fm2 motherboard available.

So I guess my question is is it worth paying $350~ instead of either $240~ or $110~ for either of the better CPUs?

760K - Cheap

FX-6300 - bit of both

I5 - Fast

Thanks!

:/ well if thats the case if you could keep the 760k and upgrade to carrizo for opencl acceleration (if you use Premiere pro) or just upgrade to Carrizo in general.

or you could bite the bullet now for a i5 and respective motherboard and have room for a i7 :)

really depends on how demanding her projects are. if you get a 760k you could probably pick up more ram if you didn't already :)

It's actually p. Solid right now, about 87 cents to the $1. Shippings and import costs are the main one, for example a 4790k is about $480 here :'(
