Z97X-SOC Devils Canyon Support?

Go to solution Solved by ShadowCaptain,

Yes it will! It says its supports 4th and 5th gen CPUs

The 4690k needs z97, and this is a z97 board

Hi there, i'm wondering if a Gigabyte Z97X-SOC (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4967#ov) would be compatible with an Intel Core i5 4690K out of the box without a bios update? Would the board post on the first boot if I use a devils canyon CPU inside this mobo?

Thanks.

The 4690 doesn't need a Z97 board, it works with many Z87 board as well.

All Z97 boards should support Devils Canyon though

That is true (even some h81 and b85 boards with no OCing) but some boards will not ship with an updated bios which can be an issue

There could be a chance you will need to update the BIOS first. I got my ASUS board the day it went on sale which was quite some time before DC was released. I had to update my BIOS for the board to recognize my 4790k but the process was very simple.
