Efficient GPu generations?

Do you think they would make more efficient GPUs instead of larger, more powerful ones?. If we keep going GPus would be the sizes of cases because of the hjeatsink. Why not do what Intel does and start making them more efficient so they require smaller and smaller heatsinks maybe to the point where this happens: 

 

^Only needs a couple of small fans so then after that they can start making them more powerful again until they get as big as the current titans and rinse and repeat

 

Am I just being stupid? Is there an obvious reason why they aren't getting more efficient?

This is the whole point of maxwell.

like if you look at maxwell, they can do 35% more performance per core ( in 3d) , while using less power, by going for 192 to 32 cuda core SM's and 128 cuda core SMM's

The point is, make it produce less byproducts like heat so they won't be a need for large heatsinks.

That won't be anywhere till the end of the decade, even longer if IBM can't create a production to make the chips more easily..

well probably see graphene/carbyne. in awhile though.
